Introduce Yourself : Hello From Tokyo by Ron Reid

Ron Reid

Hello From Tokyo

I am Canadian made and LA fashioned (took lots of film writing courses there and online).

I have pitch a few projects to producers but I often write, direct and finance my own projects in UK, CANADA, Tokyo and USA.

I find a lot of networking comes from helping others on their projects. I've connected with some writers to help better my craft and attend a few seminars with the writer's lounge. Always hoping to connect with others.

I hope I am not the only person who often shoots on vacation or while I should be on vacation and edit back in another country.

I usually write or influenced by a wide range of people and places. And write everything from Action thrillers to Sci-Fi and cut my teeth with doc features. Here is a poster I completed for a film we were invited to show at.

Here is some info on some of my films but feel free to connect or network:

THE MISFITS OF COMFORT

Format: TV

Logline:

In Tokyo, a small agency offers emotional stand-ins for people who can't and while acting these lies they become like a real family and heal their inner struggles they try to hid.

Genre: Ensemble Dramedy with light mystery

WHY THIS SHOW, WHY NOW

Japan is known for its etiquette, emotional restraint, and an aging population — but beneath the surface is a booming industry of rented intimacy: people paying for affection, apology, or connection. This show explores what happens when society fails to meet emotional needs — and strangers fill in the gaps.

But it’s not just about Japan. In an increasingly isolated world, we’re all renting comfort in some way. The show resonates with global audiences hungry for connection — and stories that blend vulnerability with a bit of absurdity.

TRANQUIL

TV Pilot Logline (Mystery/Supernatural Twist):

A disillusioned comic discovers that certain Canadian artists — overlooked, broken, or forgotten — possess uncanny powers tied to their creative gifts. With the help of a fallen pop star and a battle rapper turned mentor, he sets out to find and protect them, while hiding a dangerous truth about who he really is… and why these gifts are waking up now.

THE WORLD:

Looks like ours, but something is shifting.

Powers aren’t flashy — they’re strange, emotional, and tied to expression:

A graffiti artist paints people’s unspoken memories.

A DJ can remix someone’s mood with a custom beat.

A poet recites a piece that causes collective déjà vu.

LP knows the signs — but we don’t know how.

The story is about protecting these people before they’re corrupted or erased. And slowly, uncovering the mystery behind why Canada — of all places — is where this is happening.

External Goal (Pilot):

LP hears of a teenage beatmaker in Hamilton who’s being hospitalized for “hallucinations” after a viral track triggers something in listeners. He pulls Jaxa and is introduced to the third main member of their fold to help extract the kid before he’s sedated or taken by someone else.

Thank you,

Ron

Ron,

I really understand the feelings and thought behind what you wrote. I'm an American living in Germany, and I live alone. To do what I do creatively means spending lots of time with just my laptop — writing songs, building out TV and film projects, looking for ideas, making connections online, and keeping the momentum going even when there’s no one in the room to cheer you on.

Your comment about “renting comfort” hit home. It can happen to anyone, anywhere. There’s a quiet truth to that. I think many of us working creatively — especially those who build from the ground up — know what it feels like to chase something big while trying to hold onto connection, meaning, and our sense of self.

Thanks for being open about your journey and for putting work into projects that aim to make emotional space for others. That matters. I’d love to stay in touch and follow your progress.

All the best,

Wyman

Hi, Ron Reid. I'm glad you connected with writers to help better your craft and attended the seminars! The seminars have helped me a lot.

"I hope I am not the only person who often shoots on vacation or while I should be on vacation and edit back in another country." I know what you mean. I try to take vacations, but I end up writing, networking, and so on. I've gotten better at resting on vacation/the weekend without working on projects, networking, etc. though.

The Misfits of Comfort and Tranquil sound unique! I'm looking forward to watching them and Inside Job!
