Introduce Yourself : Writer/Filmmaker by Marc Sigoloff

I will be making my own movie in the fall titled Redneck Slashers. I guarantee it will be very different from other slasher movies. In fact it might be the first slasher movie without beer. Maybe if it has some success I can get someone behind the Hollywood blockade to read my other scripts. I really thought the online pitches would be my opportunity to break through that, but instead they just created more frustration. I think the pitch format just gives them more targets to shoot down, even if their shots make no sense. I have yet to receive any feedback that is actually helpful. One rep thought my vampire screenplay should be on a much bigger scale. He was looking for horror and he doesn't know that going big kills horror. If small isn't wanted then explain the success of Night of the Living Dead, Halloween, Friday the 13th, Scream and most other legendary horror movies. Even a huge portion of The Exorcist is in one apartment. He also said I should have come up with a more creative way for the protagonists to get to the town than by car. I suppose it would have been better to have Scotty beam them there. For my ghost dating comedy a different rep said it was identical to The 40 Year Old Virgin just because I used a similar place of employment. That is like saying Taxi Driver and Manhattan are identical because they involve a relationship between an older man and a younger female, and they are both set in New York. I don't recall The 40 Year Old Virgin having a ghost, and none of the situations I described in my pitch are remotely like those in that movie. How can anyone take this stuff seriously? It does help me understand why the quality of movies has been deteriorating.
