Different Editing styles

Here's a video I've just come across from Daniel Schiffer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1QRdhVCzeAHe tasks people on Fiverr to edit a 30 sec commercial using his own footage. The results are quite interesting and really showcases how different something can be when given to multiple people! I find it very enlightening to watch these kinds of things because I can learn something new from various viewpoints.

A lot of it comes down to transitions and how well they can integrate them. Pretty fun!

Have you ever done something like this? Do you look at other editors and see if you can get any new tricks with similar projects?

I LOVE this! I saw one like this for an animated logo and it was so eye-opening to see the different price points. I kinda feel like I'll do this for every project now LOL

Interesting. Taking a look at different types of work definitely has it's advantages if not anything else to get a spark of new ideas.

Recently we were working pn a collaborative project where there were about 6 editors involved so naturally there were six different points of view of how the edit would look like which was fine since we wanted to see different explorations of the same project. Then when we finally integrated all the different edits together we actually got an offer from a completely different editor asking if he could take a stab at it. I'm honestly interested in seeing the result because it might give us some insight and spark some new ideas for things that we weren't exactly enthusiastic about.

But for myself I always have a problem with just letting my work go to someone else. I guess I'm kind of a control freak who likes to be part of every part of my project. For example I love editing dialog and love to do that, so I'm always going to try to squeeze in some editing and I also love cinematography and even when I'm directing there's always going to be a shot or two that I did myself. If nothing else just to satisfy my own desire to be part of everything.

That was really interesting!
