Anything Goes : Storyboarding Software by Christopher Spalding

Storyboarding Software

Hi, I am chiefly a script writer with limited drawing ability (most people could shoot a feature in the time it would take me to storyboard the opening scenes). I also have no money to pay a proper artist (sorry - one day I will). I know there are some good storyboarding apps / software out there with character / location libraries and I first discovered them via Amazon Studios' Storybuilder. I found that great for pacing and getting a general feel for overall flow, but I don't want to upload my scripts to Amazon every time I want to try something. Do any of you guys use one, or have and suggestions / recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Hi Christopher. Steven Spielberg does matchstick storyboards. Since there's no money, as long as you get the composition, using arrows to explain blocking n movements someone else can understand what's going on. Or u can use free google sketch 3d to create your storyboards, that's what a lot of comic book artists use.

Christopher Spalding

Thanks Ken - I don't think I've used Google Sketch, so I'll check that out.

Ken Koh

Google sketch is a 3d modeling app, you don't have to draw or build from scratch, you can download from an abundant library of shapes, people, buildings, things. Take some time to learn there's lots of videos to help, and build your sets then just print a 2d image of it for your storyboard. I use it to help my son create comic novels.

Thanks again - I'm going to look at this now. It could save me some money, and I love saving money. Good luck with the comic novels too - these are the things which turn dads into super-dads!
