Producing : Content Partner with a studio by Tessa Mckenzie

Content Partner with a studio

This is a brand new topic to me, Content Partner unite with a studio. From a legal point of view, what should my steps be? So, I'm in discussion with a new Studio, she has the connection, I have the script content for a feature film. So, my idea was as long I'm still the Producer of my movie, we can do anything under her studio umbrella's, her studio can get all the credits. So, what should I be in look at for. Anyone familiar with it?

Karen "Kay" Ross

I feel like this is a great question for legal counsel. You definitely don't want to agree to terms about credits, rights, wages or residuals without consulting a lawyer to review those contracts first. That being said, it sounds like this contract would be between you, as the producer and owner of the rights to the script, and the Studio, the production company, yes? If so, "in association with" seems like the right title, but I would definitely confirm that with legal.

Cherelynn Baker

I second Karen "Kay" Ross - and I would like to add the same "all is fair in love and war" - but not in securing world wide theatrical rights with producing credits and residuals involved. I would seek entertainment attorney counsel specifically before signing anything. If anyone has any objection to legal counsel or formal documents it could be the flag you need before proceeding.
