My short was shot by two different directors, first "medieval" part was shot by one, then second "modern times" - by another, next year. How do I credit both directors in the ending credits? Usually there's "directed by", and "second unit director". But this implies that second unit was involved on less-important scenes, while this is not the case with us. They both were the only unit at the time of production. If I write "directed by AAAA and BBBB" - that would imply that they both shared directing of every scene - this is not tru either.

Just directed by, and bkth their names. 2nd unit is of course a subordinate credit for well, second unit work.
Thanks, Shadow Dragu-Mihai. But that will credit then as directing together, like splitting directors' job to two. Is there a way to discern that?

No. Directing together would be co-directed.
