Hello everyone, what do you think about submitting your film to festivals as Work in Progress, I have film that the sound is not completely done, the picture is finished, it looks good, but the sound needs work. If I don't submit, I'll have to wait another year to submit to these festivals. So please, tell me your thoughts, I'd like your honest opinion.
It really depends on the festival and their judging criteria and who's looking at the films. With one, you could send in a hot completed clip and the unfinished film and with the right mix of people judging material, who have a feel for what the finished film would be, they'd give it a go, others, if they don't see the completed film all put together, and the people on the board can't "see" what the finished film might look like, they might not. I'd call the festival and talk to people running the program and ask them what their take on it is. That's better than submitting blind and crossing your fingers.
Thanks for the advice Max
You're welcome. "Call and ask" is not brilliant advice, but the festival circuit is not cheap I always figure it's better to know going in than waste extra bucks on "let's find out the hard way" submissions.
[Oh, also, caveat, that advice is not based on personally submitting films to festivals. I've worked behind the scenes at some and have watched a lot of friends go through the process but I've never actually submitted myself.]
