Screenwriting : Black & White and in Color by Max Boyce

Black & White and in Color

Yo, screenwriter-directors, I'm working up scripts and I see the scenes in black and white that then morph to color-- to emphasize certain emotions, or times periods, or events. Seems like a good technique to me... but, I am conflicted. Give me your opinion. I'm not asking just to ask, I'm mid-script in 3 scripts and dangling over a cliff of indecision.

Antonio Ingram

Well I say do it, that is your art and this industry is all about pushing the boundaries. If you don't do it then who will. You have me interested in this technique. Best of luck to you.

Max Boyce

Thanks Tony, Best of luck to you, too!

Danny Kellermeyer

Take a look at Nolan's script for Memento. He does something similar. And has specific formatting.

Max Boyce

I will take a look. I loved that movie! Thank you DANNY!

Hey Dan, I'm seeing and hearing you as the man who knows. And after rewrite, you were right!

E.B. Laird

Producers and Directors are turned off to spec scripts with too many transitions or shooting instructions. Much as screenwriters love their work and want their vision on the screen the directors do with it as they please when they get their hands on them.
