E-Ink Reader for Screenplay Reading & Annotation

Hi all. Not sure if this has been covered before (apologies if so!) but I am looking into investing in an e-ink reader (Kindle Scribe, Boox, Remarkable etc.) so I can look after my eyes while I do my job of providing notes on writers' screenplays and pilots.

So, would love your recommendations please. Of particular interest is to get a device that has decent pdf markup tools. Essentially, I want to be able to switch from reading and annotating screenplay PDFs on my desktop to an e-ink reader.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, suggestions and recommendations. Thanks!

Maurice Vaughan

Hi, Phil Clarke. I'd like to know too!

Maurice Vaughan Do your eyes suffer too?

Maurice Vaughan

Yeah, Phil Clarke. After a long day of looking at my laptop screen. And I want an e-ink reader so I can read scripts away from my laptop. I read scripts on my phone sometimes, but the screen isn't that big.

And I just remembered I had a Kindle Fire a while back. I just read books on it. I might get that again. I'll check out the Kindle Scribe, Boox, and Remarkable too. Thanks.

I'd love to learn about your findings. Feel free to DM me anytime.

Ok, no problem, Phil Clarke.

I'd be interested in any info anyone has too. I have a lot of issues with my eyes after working all day on the laptop and multiple screens. Something better for the eyes would be great.

Hi Phil, I use my Remarkable, it allows me to mark up a script as well.

Phil Clarke

Thanks, Roni. So, you read scripts as pdfs and then mark them up? If so, what markup tools are on offer?

Roni Brown

Remarkable does handwriting to text straight on the pdf or you can insert notes. I have an older model so not sure if this is still their thing with their newer models, but it made things really easy.

I truly do not know what I would do without my Remarkable. I’ve had it for years. Am totally dependent on it, especially when editing and annotating my screenplays. The newer models also have color so you can highlight based on your own system like yellow = repetitive word, red = repetitive beat, etc. I’ve used tons of tools. Their handwriting to text is the best.
