Script Coordination

I know this isn't writing per se but there wasn't a lounge for this. I was just wondering about the process of getting hired as a script coordinator? I haven't come across training for this position and the reoccurring advice I've been given is work my way up from a PA or write a really good spec for an episode to impress the showrunner. I am Toronto based by the way - so 90% of the writers rooms for productions up here are in LA. Can anyone advise on this please? :)

You need 0 training skills. Just be available 24/7, work your way into the Room. Hustle. A long time ago, I was a Script PA/Coordinator for FOX reality TV. I photocopied scripts, made sure the Booth PA had the right scripts for the Teleprompters, made runs to Post facilities. It's just a fancier title than a PA and less driving. My advice on your resume, put in bold letters "know how to make coffee and drive a manual car." I worked for 2 bigtime Producers (one is still alive) and I got the job because I knew how to operate an expresso coffee machine and I knew how to drive a manual car (one of the Producers was a car collector and I was moving his cars all over Los Angeles storage units). I also interviewed for 2nd assistant job at Michael Mann's office. The first question out of the Interviewer was "do I know how to drive a stick?" Mann is also a huge car collector. You are working for wealthy men and women with expensive hobbies and vices. Have a useful skill like making great fresh coffee! That will get you hired! Good luck!

Thank you :) Much appreciated. I'm hoping my Office PA experience will be of some use to gain this position

Definitely hustle, and you'll probably have to start low... think intern or PA, move to assistant if you can, and work your way into coordinating. You'll need to probably write a spec script for whichever show you're going after. If you're interested, I can see if Justin Schwartz (script Coordinator for FX/HBO, currently on BONES) can hop on a consultation call with you. Shoot me a DM.
