What do I do after writing screenplay?

Alright, so I have finished writing a screenplay, but I don't know what to do next. I am new and I don't have any connections. Can you help me?

Pierre Langenegger

Put it up for peer reviews to fix all those annoying little things that need to be fixed before you start submitting to comps or coverage.

Skyler Chase

What do you mean beats?

Skyler Chase

Oh alright. And after that how would I get it into production mode?

Shawn Speake

After you feel like you've gotten the story where it needs to be, try professional coverage.

Skyler Chase

Alright, I think that's my weakness. I try to look too far ahead in the future.

Skyler Chase

Alright, thanks.

Skyler Chase

I have been reading several screenplays online

I have to say that i think C Michael Johns advice is not only bad advice but could do much more harm then good to creative young writers. Should you know the general major structural beats of a script? Yes. Three (or 4) act structure? yes. But putting your script thru the save the cat machine doesn't mean shit except that you know how to count pages. Its not about the page numbers Its about the impact the story and words are having on the page. it doesn't matter if the beat is on pg 42 or 54, as long as you have the movie moments and the story progresses naturally and in an engaging way. And the REASON you go to professional readers & consultants instead of peers is because they know that. And pros don't evaluate your script with a beat sheet next to it for comparison. Now to the original poster...you just finished your first draft of your first script. Congrats!! You should be very proud of yourself! But realistically, you're 3-10 more scripts and 3-10 more years away from being production ready. Nows the time to get some feedback, rewrite another draft or 2, and submit to a couple contests. and in the meantime, move on to your next script & start outlining & writing. 98% of first scripts don't sell and another 1% sell after a later-written script has already sold and you go back to sell the first one after when you have buzz. so just keep rewriting and writing. And get some pro feedback so you know what areas you need to work on. good luck!

She can start by posting it here, right? Just joined myself but this seems to be the right spot...

Pierre Langenegger

Skyler is a dude.

Peter Elliott

Skyler in Good Will Hunting was a girl. Anyway, a person can post a script or link thereto right here... right?

Skyler Chase

That's actually who I was named after though.

Pierre Langenegger

Yes, a person can post a script and/or logline to their profile page
