Podcast Companies Are Coming In Hot!

I just read this article (https://deadline.com/2026/03/podimo-buys-arcstudio-hires-netflix-bbc-goo... ) about a podcast company called Podimo, and honestly, it's kind of wild what they're doing. They're based in Copenhagen and just bought a German studio called Arc.Studio, plus they hired a bunch of big-name execs from Netflix, Google, BBC, and Disney. Like, these are people who ran major stuff at those companies, and now they're going all-in on podcasts.

What stood out to me is how fast this space is moving. Podimo is putting out over 700 episodes a month and focusing a lot on video now, so they're not just audio anymore. One of their executives said they can go from having an idea to putting it out in front of audiences in like six weeks. That's insane compared to how long it takes to get a TV show or movie made. Hollywood moves so slow, and these podcast companies are just sprinting ahead.

The article also mentions this study that says the creator economy in Europe is worth over $30 billion right now and could hit $157 billion in a few years. That's huge. It makes me wonder if traditional studios should be worried. Podcasts are building really loyal fanbases, and once you have that, you can turn a show into pretty much anything—a Netflix series, a tour, merchandise, whatever.

It feels like podcast companies are positioning themselves to compete directly with Hollywood, but they're doing it with way less baggage and way more speed. Do you think this is the future of entertainment, or is it just a trend that'll level out?

Really interesting post, Sam. It does feel like podcast companies are becoming a fast pipeline for new IP. Since they can go from idea to audience so quickly, creators can build a fanbase first and prove the concept before Hollywood even gets involved.

We’ve already seen podcasts turn into TV shows and films, so it wouldn’t surprise me if more studios start looking at podcasts as a place to discover new stories. It feels less like a trend and more like another lane for developing entertainment.

There are some great storytelling podcasts out there that actors like Pedro Pascal, Oscar Isaac, and more have been part of. I think it lends itself as a great way to bridge the gap between movies and audiobooks, and to help really reach beyond the limits most people see.

Awesome post Sam Rivera - podcasts are a silent powerhouse. The reach and cult following they have is huge. I didn't realize the 6 week turnaround for an idea to screen is insane.
