In 1989 Franco Bolelli and Francesca Alfano Miglietti organised the Pantelleria Land Art Festival, inviting Clare Ann Matz to create a performance/land art piece in the volcanic lake "Specchio di Venere". Over a period of 3 days Clare crawled across the lake removing the upper layer of the salt crust to reveal the dark volcanic soil below.
