The Making of "Paglaya sa Tanikala"(Freedom from Chains)

"Paglaya sa Tanikala" is the first film that portrayed the life and works of St. Jerome Emiliani. A great honor for Philippine Cinema but also a wake-up call against the worsening drug problem that slowly destroys the lives of the sons and daughters of the motherland. Produced by the Somascan Fathers in the Philippines, the film is the 500th year commemoration of St. Jerome Emiliani's freedom from chains when he was captured and tortured by an invading army in the 16th century. Miraculously freed by the Virgin Mary, he pledged to serve the poor and abandoned. His legacy still stands today through the Somascan Congregation which has schools, orphanages and seminaries around the world.
