Introduce Yourself : Sandra Rose - I ate the words, "It could never happen to me!!!!!" by Sandra Rose

Sandra Rose - I ate the words, "It could never happen to me!!!!!"

Hello everyone and welcome. I am a retired educator and recent author of my first novel, The Seductive Schoolhouse Scandal. THE SEDUCTIVE SCHOOLHOUSE SCANDAL, filled with elements of suspense, crime, and sex is a shocking and unbelievable story, inspired by my personal experiences while teaching in Camden, New Jersey - labeled as one of the most dangerous and poorest cities in the country. I was mentally manipulated by the school administrator who pulled me into his dangerous web of theft, lies, and deception. When the walls the the building ‘came tumbling down’, I survived by telling the truth. Recounting the severe retaliation, I refer to this time as ‘the dark years of my life’. As I was writing this novel, I asked myself, 'how could I have been so stupid'?" But when a person mentally controls you, common sense flies out the window. So here I am, sharing a piece of me with the world. The story has been converted to a screenplay, and I am looking for an interested party.

Hi Sandra - I think I've heard the phrase "write what you know" about a hundred times over the past few months. I can see you did just that. Did you write the screenplay yourself as well?

Sandra Rose

I paid a screenwriter to do that, but I was dissatisfied with the results. Many producers were interested in the topic, but the screenplay was boring and lacked my passion. So a couple of months ago, I used the screenwriter's format and edited it. I think the screenplay is much more exciting now.

Congrats Sandra! Too bad the first one had to wait until after retirement. This tells me writing is a passion. Great you realized it and got to it!

"I ate the words" --- How'd they taste not expecting them on the menu?

Daniel Monskey

Wow! What an inspiring environment! You couldn't HELP but to write from those experiences! I had a life-changing experience happen that was so inspiring that I also couldn't help but to write. It was a positive thing that just opened my mind and soul, changing my career direction and passions of life. Good for you surviving and developing such inner strength to see it through and then turn those experiences into a work of art to share with the world. I hope much success for you with the development of the novel into a movie. You're at the gate!!!

Sandra Rose

Thank you, but I've run into a brick wall. Any suggestions?

Daniel Monskey

Your endeavor is way over my head. I'd say get aggressive and start pitching to specifics who can help. Go to CONNECT in the Stage 32 tabs. At the top you'll see OCCUPATION. Look through the list in that tab (make sure you're searching in the correct category: film, theatre, television,... They have separated categories in the column). See if you can find the subject that seems most suitable to put a door in that brick wall. Then get started looking through the contacts and write to them and/or connect. Also, the HAPPY WRITERS category at the top sounds really good to connect either via Skype or in writing with execs ($45/session) to pitch your project. I have started out on here timid, polite and MInnesota Nice and found that gets you no where. People connect on their own to develop a network, but you have to seek out your own network to satisfy your own needs. We are all different. I was told many people don't know what they want and just pursue general connections to network, while some (it sounds like you) have a firm plan or project and can go for it full-on. So, GO!

Hi Sandra. I am also a classroom teacher who has experienced some things that you would think should not happen in middle school. It takes strength, to candidly, tell your story because of the shame felt in acknowledging"this really did happen to me". Your story hit home with me. Thank you for sharing.
