Screenwriting : Screenplay by Julie Michelle Kaufmann

Screenplay

I have just finished writing my screenplay "Seriah's Legacy" and I was wondering if there is an area where Producers and Directors search for screenplays on Stage32. I am new to Stage32.

Shawn Speake

Hey, Julie. Welcome! Start with uploading your script under loglines on your profile page. Then post to exchange scripts for feedback.

Lisa Scott

It would be nice if producers, directors, agents, and managers were actively invited to search for projects here, but I don't think that will really happen in the way that you (and most of us) would like.

Julie Michelle Kaufmann

Thanks Lisa and Shawn! I wasn't sure but irregardles, I am glad to be a part of this wonderful site and looking forward to connecting with other writers and filmmakers here at Stage32.

Lisa Scott

if you upload it then i'll give it a looksee. can't promise to read the entire thing though... unless it's that good that i can't put down. something we all strive for. ;)

Stacy Gentile

This is the one MAJOR PROBLEM Stage 32 has. There should be a specific place writers can dump a script and producers / directors would go there to look for stuff .... some sort of script / directing matching thing. UGH

Lisa Scott

they want people to have to pay for the privilege. that's the elephant in the room talking.

Julie Michelle Kaufmann

Being very protective over my screenplay, I don't like to have my script accessible to anyone except producers that contact me directly.

Stacy Gentile

Owen - My bad if you misunderstood my point so let me try to clear the fog. Let's say I was a producer or reader or Dir. and wanted to surf for scripts. Right now, I would have to go to every individual profile... click...click...click just to get the script. That's very inefficient. It would be nice if there was a "dumping" ground where there were scripts in bulk if someone wanted to read them. Also my apologies if you don't like the word "dump". I have been in sales for over 25 years as well and my comments were not meant to take anything away from the stellar networking opportunities on the site. Hope this clears things up a little.

Julie Michelle Kaufmann

Stacy....you are fine. I know what you meant by dumping and I understood completely with what you were saying. You have given good advice and I appreciate it alot. I am hoping that Stage32 develops a place where writers can post their scripts. I think I would post my logline in the beginning. John.....Yes I have researched InkTip and what I like about InkTip is that you can post your scripts and only Producers/Directors can access writers screenplays and writers cannot access them. This makes it more secure for writer's work. I also have copyright protection and also registered it throuth WGA.

Lisa Scott

Julie -- i understand your need to be protective of your work. but what if it's not good enough to show a producer yet? what if you send a query to a producer and she loves the concept and says, send me the script. and then you send her the script and there are problems and issues with it that makes her "pass"? you've just lost your chance. i understand that people are afraid that someone is going to steal their idea. well, guess what -- if it's on public record (not just copyrighted and registered) then anyone and everyone KNOWS IT'S YOURS! if your like me (and i know some people are) then you would believe that no one can write this story, but you. there's stuff in there, personal elements, investigative research, any YOUR VOICE that cannot be stolen from a lesser writer... and yes, only a lesser writer would steal the work from another writer. this is b/c they got shit for brains and no creative thoughts of their own. Julie -- know this: you can choose to just upload your logline. you can choose to upload your synopsis. you can choose to upload your entire script OR just the first few pages. get feedback if that's what you want. OR direct producers and directors to your page, which you indicated you wanted. and then after reading the logline or opening pages they can choose to ask you for the entire script. AND -- you have the ability to remove it at any time you wish. Oh -- and guess what. I did connect with a producer on this site. In fact, he contacted me first. He's got an extremely impressive imdb page... so much that i was jumping up and down. AND we've already made face to face contact at one of his movie screenings. It can happen, but you have to put yourself out there. Don't expect them to come running to you. okay -- i'm done babbling... for now.

Stacy Gentile

Lisa - Please check the thread ... I never said any of that.

Lisa Scott

oops -- i mean, Julie. funny how those two names sound the same to me. ;) i'm gonna fix it.

@Julie. I've written some articles for another site that may be useful, see www.anthonycawood.co.uk/articles

Try Inktip.

Shelley Stuart

My experience with Inktip is that the producers there tend to gravitate toward non-WGA, ultra low-budget material. If your story can be made for a song, go for it.

Anthony Cawood

@ Alle, so perfect for most screenwriters on S32, as members of a similar social media inernet site.

Beth Fox Heisinger

Stage 32 is about building relationships first and foremost. There are plenty of other sites built for self-promotion only. Again, if you have a question or suggestion please post those in "Ask Stage 32." Stacy, I kindly suggest that you look over the "Stage 32 Success Stories," found both in the Lounge and Happy Writers. The format of this site has certainly done well for many. :)

Stacy Gentile

That's awesome advice Beth ... thanks. I will check those out.

Julie Michelle Kaufmann

Beth, I understand and networking and building relationships is both important. No matter what area on Stage32 everyone asks questions of advice or questions that may be on their mind. I do appreciate everyone providing their advice to my question. Thank you Everyone!!!!
