We have an interesting thing happening over here in the states that require union houses to pay their actors at least minimum wage. It seems like a really bad thing for a lot of these smaller houses. There are a few exceptions... but... http://www.attn.com/stories/1360/plan-increase-la-theater-pay
There was an interesting case over here recently where the RSC was forced to pay amateur actors involved with one of its tours. I'm not sure the exact circumstances but if they volunteered to do it then surely there shouldn't have been an issue? It could set a dangerous precedent if people aren't careful.
