I love the movie concept as I write about female mafia bosses in Italy but I think there is too much attention to her boobs and almost no focus on the eyes. I have a degree in graphic design from Miami (although I live in the UK now) and would be happy to think up a couple of ideas to help you out. Well done on doing this and asking for input.
Yeah... The concept sounds interesting, but I really don't care for this poster either -- I too have a background in graphics/art/design direction. The poster's image does not seem to fit the film's concept very well. Her pose is very strange. Odd. Who stands around with an arm over your head while holding a gun? Who stands around like that at all?! As a "contract killer" she doesn't appear very capable, certainly not of the violence described or needed to carry out her tasks. She looks more like a Playboy model. This poster gives me the impression that this film is geared towards men's entertainment and is not a female driven story. Perhaps don't sexualize her so much -- better yet, not at all. As she appears in the poster she seems rather "cartoonish" or "plastic" and not authentic, real, three-dimensional. It's hard to take her seriously. As the title suggests, perhaps focus more on her eyes, her emotions, her motivations -- not her boobs -- in the image. Sorry... just my two-cents. I do wish you the best with your project. :)
Hi Hilary - interesting we both have England/Miami experience! How would you do this better? Am thinking Danny Lima's eyes in the poster are very compelling actually - particularly as they have the title of the movie next to them.
Hi Beth - thx so much for taking the time to evaluate this poster. Still, I think otherwise. Danny Lima is actually a very real and curvaceous lady as is the norm in Miami and Latin America. She's not at all the skinny stereo type you tend to find in American movies, and that is just one of the refreshing elements that Danny that she brings to the role of Cleo. The fact that she looks hot is great, but is not the only gift about her. Her posture is a re-do of the previous poster from stock photography that people loved.
While I'm sure Ms. Lima is a great actress and I'm very aware of the wonderful women of Latin American -- that's not the issue here. The issue is rather HOW she is portrayed in the poster; what the image conveys; and what impression it gives. You did ask for opinions about the poster. :) Breaking stereotypes is certainly VERY refreshing, but perhaps consider trying a different layout for the poster; a different pose. Perhaps tone down her lovely assets and bring up her eyes -- honestly, they're hard to see in this image. Take a look and compare to the posters for the movies "Salt" (Angelina Jolie) and "Colombiana" (Zoe Saldana). Both were done well. :) Again, best of luck with your project!
I have to be honest, the poster does nothing for me. I know that's the last thing you want to hear when you put that much work into everything. It just doesn't seem to capture the theme or tone. Look at the poster for Hanna. To me that works. In your poster she is suppose to be a contract killer but she's holding a gun like an amateur. It looks awkward to me. Possible another thing to consider is the name. I know here the name might be wrong is like a deep cut but I have to throw it out there for you. Good luck in your project.
I'm inclined to agree with Beth. When I looked at the poster, all I saw was her boobs. She could have EASILY pulled that gun on me because i didn't even see it
It's true, women in South America are curvy but is the film selling sex or a woman that should be taken seriously? There are other ways to show her sexiness rather than this blatant, boobs hanging out, look. Sexy is secondary, her killer instinct is first. Just my opinion.
Erica - straight after these photos were taken we showed them to two highly experienced cops - one in Swat. They noticed the gun was a snub-nosed .38 revolver and didn't think the pose amateurish. They were rather taken with it in fact.

It's not the pose, it's how she is holding the gun with the finger on the trigger. That's how an amateur would hold a gun not a professional unless she was pointing at you and about to fire the finger would never be on the trigger. But that's just my opinion.

Ha ha Dave - but isn't that a good point?

Hillary - actually I think the urge to kill and sex are very related. Too long a discussion to go into here.
