Hi everyone, I am an introverted, self-conscious individual who even feels awkward putting up a profile picture! Possibly not the best characteristics for someone dipping a toe in the churning waters of the film industry. I also describe myself as ‘an author’. That might be a bit of over-hyping. I’ve not had anything published anywhere by anyone. (My opening sentence refers.) However, I am a keen member of The Inkerman Writers, a writing club based in Darlington, UK. I have do enjoy two things; writing and cinema/films/movies. Technically, that’s four but being an Ancient Brit I tend to use the language of my youth and still call them films. I’ve written many short stories and I have the bare bones, work in progress of four longer stories/novels- 2 sci-fi, 1 horror and 1 rom-com. My interest in sci-fi is mainly in deep thought proving subjects (eg Ex Machina) as opposed to X-Men et al. Horror is more creeping psychological than axe wielding bloodbaths. I have always been interested in writing a screenplay but have never got fully to grips with reproducing the scenes that run in my head onto paper in the way that screenplay formatting requires. Consequently, I’ve pitched up here to see if I can get help, tips and pointers in producing said screenplays. I’ve read various books and have several screen formatting programmes but I don’t want to write pages of stuff if it’s completely wrong, so advice on where to start happily received here. Thank you all for any feedback.

Welcome, Graham! I'm sorry you feel self- conscious but you have no reason to be. If you write, you're a writer! Cheers!

Welcome, Graham. You're in the right place. :) When I first became a member, I spent some time reading the threads in the Screenplay Lounge and the Playwright Lounge. I learned a ton. Actually, I still do this. Now and again, I will take an hour or so to just read through and comment. From time to time, members post links to videos and blogs that cover all you seek. I learn from those, too. There is a wealth of information here. So little me would advise you start here -- in the conversations. If you're on the e-mail lists, you'll get regular emails offering all sorts of opportunity to learn. There are webinars, opportunities to speak to executives, etc. My best to you.
Thank you both for your welcome and words. I feel on the way already!
