Introduce Yourself : Screenwriter by Alyssa Jefferson

Screenwriter

I'm a writer with focus on dark genres and a writing style (positively & negatively) described as "lyrical" and "novelistic." In 2014, my crime thriller THE GARDENER placed in the top 5% of the Nicholl's Fellowship, and 2nd on the BLOODLIST (still thrilled)! More recently, I'm playing around with adaptations on spec, which is a horrible idea, but I really love the subject matter. I'll be moving to Los Angeles within a few months to make networking easier, but until then, Twitter just hasn't been enough lately! So, hello! Happy to connect.

THE GARDENER is story about? And do you know what was the criteria for Nicholl's Fellowship?

Congratulations on all your success, Alyssa, and welcome to the community! There are over 80,000 screenwriters on this site, so you're in very good company. I'd definitely suggest checking out the screenwriting section of the Lounge. A ton of great discussions happening over there! I look forward to seeing you around town!

I've updated my loglines to include THE GARDENER now, but it's a crime thriller set in 1950s America about a florist who stumbles onto a murder scene one morning on his way to work, and gets tangled in a Whodonit conspiracy. Influenced and inspired by Lewis Carroll's Adventures in Wonderland and Marilyn Manson's album Born Villain. As for Nicholl's criteria, it must be a feature (most genres welcome), and you can't have earned so much money (I think $25k) in the film industry, as they're trying to get new blood. If you earn more, even as you wait for contest results, you're disqualified. There is a cash prize, but only for 10 or so out of 7500. Even so, it's probably the best Screenwriting Competition out there, offering the most bang for yer buck.
