Screenwriting : What's in a name? by Renee Bernard

Renee Bernard

What's in a name?

IF you have a pen name established in another genre and industry (NY publishing) with some success but it is a Complete Departure from your writing for screen--would you use your pen name to establish credibility (as in 'yes, I am a professional and can hit a deadline, tell a great story, etc.) or do you take the leap and create a new persona for Hollywood? I'd love to hear some input on this one!

Rayna W.

I would 100% go with the pen name, at least to get my foot in the door. I once heard something forever ago where you HAVE to use your real name in screenwriting. I have no idea how true that is. But to get my foot in the door? Hellz. yes, use the name that people know. That's just my personal suggestion.

Renee. Use whatever name will get people to read your screenplays. How many have you written and are you adapting any of your books?

Rosalind Winton

You can use your pen name for anything you like, however you want to be known should apply to anything and everything you do :)

I've written about seventeen novels and these projects are definitely not related to that work. I have been advised that it would be smart to look at book-to-film opportunities but I wouldn't want to be the one writing the adaptations since I am hoping to branch off from that brand if I can. Thanks for asking, Dan Guardino!
