rewriting my horror short for the fifth time. From the book I've been reading "Your Screenplay Sucks " I need to knock out 5 more drafts. Whatever it takes to get it to where it needs to be. I'm adding more layers to the story. Actually slowed down and wrote a detailed outline. Will be picking up John Truby's horror genre audio series. After 10 drafts, il. re-upload

Welllllll, don't just rewrite it just for the sake of rewriting it. lol... I just had to say that... I'm sure you're not writing blindly. How long is the short?

Yes Aray, rewriting is the real art/craft of writing. There's a lot of good information in Bill's book and if you're still in the learning phase, you might find Linda Cowgill's book “Writing Short Films” to be of some help. There is no single magic number of rewrites required. When you're satisfied with what you have – set it aside for awhile while you do something else. Let it ferment for awhile before looking at again with fresh eyes – you'll be amazed at what you find (good & bad.)

Aray, I downloaded your “FEAR” draft and find the story line interesting – let me know when you get it all tidied up. I can't PM you 'cause you're not in my network. Do you know Sarah Mckennon?

Rewriting for me is the movie Ground Hog Day. Reliving the script (time after time) until I have the perfect day, until I have changed. I'll do pass through based on a single topic, like focusing on transitions. There is no minimum number of rewrites or set formula for me. I knocked out a great 30 page story. Started rewriting it into a feature. What a mistake, it was a 30 page story. Five hundred rewrites will not make it a feature. It will be a different story. May as well just start a new story and not waste my time.
or either you can revamp it
Thanks Doug for reading! I'll definitely keep you informed.
Thanks, Aray for the reminder about the book "Your Screenplay Sucks." I had planned to order it a while back when someone first mentioned it, but forgot. Just ordered it yesterday on Kindle. So far, it's been a down-to-earth and realistic view of what needs to be done in order to guide readers/executives to want to read past page one. Really helpful! Love that it's written by someone who has read thousands of screenplays, and has plenty of examples. I tend to learn best by example. :-)
