Introduce Yourself : Editor and Producer for Indie Docs by Nick Aquilino

Nick Aquilino

Editor and Producer for Indie Docs

This is my first time introducing myself to the group. I have an extensive background in creating indie projects, including one no-budget feature and several docs, and have literally hundreds of hours of edited films to my credit. I hope that I can be of service to some of the many creative people on here.

Hi Nick, I just perused your profile and noticed that you've taught editing to students all over the world. Seems like such a rewarding experience. It's so cool to share a passion and practical skills with young people. Love that!

Nick - Script Analyst to the Producer of the movie Platoon? Do tell...

Nick Aquilino

HI Amanda, It's easy to be a Script Analyst -- it's an unpaid position, so anyone who is literate can do it. I read scripts and wrote my summary and critique, which was a side job while doing other paid work. The coverage was always welcomed highly, and I was thrilled to hear that I was being considered for a Development Director position. That job went to a guy who was very ambitious, read and commented on script relentlessly, and kept it up for many years, and he is now a Studio President, so it can be a great stepping stone if one has the motivation. That is one of the perks of the job, it can be a dream come true if one pursues it. Meanwhile, you get to read some fascinating material, much of it from good writers and get to see what happens when a studio takes a project to it's final stage.

Congrats on such a great career trajectory. I was hoping you had some fun in-the-trenches Platoon stories he might have shared :)
