What are your writing goals? Is it to see your movie on the big screen? Is it to have A list actors in your film? Is it to have your film make it to number 1 at the box office? or would you rather write for Hallmark or Netflix or even B grade movies that alot of people love? Would you sell your script just for a paycheck or would you wait til it felt right? To any of the pro's who read this, are you satisfied with where you are in your career? Or do you want more? If so, what?

Set-up a franchise like Gary Thompson (FastNFurious), live off Fame & WGA residual checks, quit Writing, teach full time at UCLA Film school, wear Hawaiin shirts and $800 sweatpants, race my Porsche around Malibu canyons. That's it.

Of course I want as many people as possible to see my work. But a pay cheque is as far as I go unless I produce it myself. I intend to write many scripts, so a payment is the ultimate goal.

My goal has always been to be a great storyteller. Whether in film or in novel format. Whether micro-budget or big budget. My heroes in film are storytellers like John Carpenter, Walter Hill, and Michael Mann; all brilliant storytellers who've delivered both low-end and high-end gems as well as some questionable misses. I want to live off my writing eventually, but believe you have to be multi-disciplined to some degree across producing/directing etc to drive your own success as well. It's a nice dream, but I'd love to be the John Carpenter or Walter Hill of Australia. I don't think that's too much to ask for, do you?

My only goal in writing is to see at least one of my work on the big screen. I honestly could care less about the payday or becoming the "hot" writer in Hollywood -- I genuinely love writing, and just want to be able to make a steady living while doing what I love without having to spend 50 hours a week at some dead-end job.

Justin - I completely agree with you. I love writing, I could not think of anything else I would love to do more. Paychecks are nice but I'd never sell myself out for one. I don't care about being the hot new writer or whatever they call it. I just want to make decent movies that people can enjoy and escape their lives for 2 hours. I have standards with my writing that I refuse to go below, even for a paycheck. If someone asks me, what movies have you written? I want to be able to say something someone has heard of...lol

@Justin - I feel the same way. My day job sucks. I do it to pay the bills and keep a roof over my daughter's head, but I would love to make a steady income writing.

I just want to make a living telling good stories. I don't need to be rich, I don't need fame. I just find writing a great way to connect with people. Adequate payment is important, but it isn't everything.

My goal is to reach as many people as I can with work that affects their emotions and thoughts. For the time I've been able to invest, I feel I'm currently where I should be. I also still wish to make enough money to destroy my enemies and to find Bigfoot.

I would like to be a full time working screenwriter. Don't care what venue, tv, features, etc.
I don't care at this point about one of my own movies getting made because I know what a long shot that is. But to get a job on a tv show or get hired to write/rewrite scripts for producers, would be amazing. I figure if I get to that point, it will be a lot easier to get financing together to make one of my own original specs.
My good friend and mentor has a home in our state and a beautiful million dollar loft in LA. He and his wife fly back and forth at will, all he does is write. He's currently working on a project with Francis Ford Copolla. That's the life I covet.

it's not about money but it should be about respect which equals to MONEY in Hollywood Show Bizness. Agent fees, Lawyer fees, Manager fees, taxes - you're not making as much as you think. The WGA union sets a salary rate. Don't be ashamed about making a higher quota. I used to know a Writer who got paid $40K for his college script and the Producers made $$$$$ millions-like over $200mil+++. Get as much as the job pays cause careers are short in show biz. Walk away with as much loot as possible.

I would also love to see many of the passionate people on this site become successful. That way, I can eat my pretzel and watch trailers before a movie and NOT say to my wife, "Jesus Mary and Joseph, they're doing that same old rehashed crap again!"
