I ran across this article today called Dumb Little Writing Tricks That Work . Go Into the Story's Scott Meyers briefly discusses how playright/screenwriter Neil Simon employed the judicious use of Snacks such as a bag of Frito's corn chips as a reward for sitting down to write for specific blocks of time.
How about "must haves" while writing? For example, I normally like having music going while I work. Beyond that, I've never tried snacks. I just sit down and get 'er done.
Do you have any tricks that work for you?

Normally I have music playing while I write - music compatible with my project. At the end of a day's writing, I reward myself with an excellent single malt scotch nightcap. (No writing: No nightcap.)

Kinda reminds me of John Malkovich's "tell" of his box of Oreo cookies at the poker table in the movie Rounders

I've never used the reward system myself, but I'm pretty sure Doug Nelson is onto something.
