Private screening for indie cast and crew?

Is it typical to have a private screening for the cast and crew on an indie film before it's available to the public? Is everyone required to purchase a ticket for a showing at a festival? It seems odd asking someone to buy a ticket to see their work for the first time. What is standard for an indie film?

It’s best to have a cast and crew screening , and it’s free!

Some Indie films do not go public but go to pitches with producers to gain further funding. In general I always share film with crew even if not putting it out in public yet. If Ive hired technical staff who have no passion for the film we are making I just pay them for services rendered.

If you're screening the film yourself it's standard for the cast and crew to come for free plus one. Film festivals have their own rules. Usually the executive producer and the director get in free. Everyone purchases a ticket. Imagine a film festival letting in the entire casts and crew for every film they screen. Not financially viable.
