Introduce Yourself : An introduction! by Je Joseph

Hello everyone. This is my first official post and I actually feel a little nervous because this is my first attempt at doing anything like this. My name is Je, I’m 28 years old and I’ve been a New Yorker for most of life—save for a few years in Haiti as a child. I played football in high school and completed 4 years of University for a degree in Communications. I’ve been at a major television company since they brought me in as an intern but the focus has been completely on live Sports production. So while I have little experience in the “Hollywood” side of things, I do have a ton of experience in Television and working with and for executives. The thing is—I’ve always had an itch for writing and creating. At my job now, I have a bit of reputation for being extremely creative and being an outside the box thinker when it came to the type of work i do. Unfortunately, Covid has robbed me of my way of life and I’ve had to try and fill the time by finding other interests. The first thing I did was start to write! And I’ve fallen in love with it and dare I say I’m actually impressed with my work. I shared the rough draft of a pilot I was writing to a coworker of mine and she was floored. She fit the demographic that I wanted to appeal to and was someone I had tremendous respect for in my industry. That made me think that maybe this should be something I take a little more serious. So I did some research and found this wonderful app and I’m looking to learn more about this side of things and hopefully make some great connections to help improve my craft! I do want to bring up that Im not a complete novice when it comes to do developing and pitching a television series. I previously met with a VP of original programming and pitched a television show around athletes and their Tragedy to triumph stories. The pitch made its way up the chain until budget concerns pretty much put the kibosh on it. But I’ve fallen In love with the process of being able to create my own wold and characters that I find relatable. I’m looking to develop pieces of work to appeal to millennials like me while also serving as a voice to those of us who feel like people don’t care how or why we are.
