Set Etiquette Part III: Coronavirus Marathon Education Continues!

My quarantine lockdown posts continue as I try to help people do things that get them rehired, not passed over. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCt64KyK0hA

Karen "Kay" Ross

Aww, DUDE! Where were these when I was teaching teenagers! LOL!

Has anyone else learned these lessons but found it hard to pass on to others? Ya know, without having a huge consequence to learn it :-P

Shawn Speake

This is real. Every set I've been on in New Mexico, more people were focused on their phone, or falling asleep than waiting with enthusiasm. My acting partner would constantly tell me, LOOK ALIVE and EAGER. When casting enters the room, and you won't know who they are, looking for extras, if you look 'elsewhere', you're not coming back. And you'll never know what happened. Being present is so important. Great post. Here's me onset in New Mexico with GIL BIRMINGHAM.

Doug Nelson

I'm with you - no smokers/vapers on my sets (and leave your damn phone in the car).

Jim Ross

Shawn - "Waiting with enthusiasm" is such an awesome phrase! So going to use that! Thanks!

Van Ebert

Yes. Get off the phone. The opportunity is in the present moment, not on InstaTok.

Karen "Kay" Ross

Van Ebert LOL! InstaTok. I feel like there is a misconception of crew versus talent, too. Talent have to be present, on set but they also have to promote themselves in order to continue to be hired, so you end up showing the world "what set is like" via social media as talent, but if they get there as a PA, they aren't prepared for the upsetting truth - you'd better not be using your phone unless it's as a tool for set. Once you get a little more experienced, take those BTS photos/video and post it later, but if you haven't been on set long enough for someone to like your work and recommend you for another gig? Yeah, don't mess it up with excessive screen time.

Jim Ross

InstaTok. About fell outta my wheelchair on that one I feel so old, LOL!
