Entertainment Attorney

Hi Everyone. Let me know if you are in need of an entertainment attorney. I am based in NYC with clients in L.A. as well. This is a great time to be creating contracts with your collaborators. www.dianekrausz.com

Hi Diane - I may only be speaking for myself, but as a first-time feature filmmaker, one of the biggest questions I'm always asking myself is when exactly do I actually need the services of an entertainment lawyer? Where in the process? When is too early? And when is too late? Trying to balance cost vs. need. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Great question Max! I am also interested in asking a similar question. I am a singer/songwriter, wacky entertainer and after hitting rock bottom in March of 2019, I have completely transformed my mindset...and I am back with a vengeance!

Friends in the biz tell me that I should find an agency or PR firm or whatever to help push what I am doing. My brand is Lean In And Dominate. Think Joe Rogan meets Gary V.! haha

Should I look for representation now, wait a bit and build my new brand, or perhaps look for an entertainment attorney to help me? I have heard that is a good option too.

Thanks Diane!

Hello, Everyone. I wrote this list to help answer your questions. Please contact my office at 212-244-5292 or via our website at www.dianekrausz.com if you are ready to move forward on something or to set up an initial consultation.

You might be ready to hire an entertainment attorney if:

1. You have questions about certain rights and other factual issues in your material, such as, they are based on another's life story, book, cartoon, OR, you are possibly commenting about them in a negative and untrue way (e.g., defaming them). Anything that has to do with incorporating third party materials.

2. You have questions about the copyright in your or others materials.

3. You are working with another person during the process of developing your work, such as a co-writer, director, coach or dramaturg.

4. You would like a general understanding of how certain unions, i.e., dramatists guild (plays) or writers' guild (films, television) or others work affect you and your rights.

5. You or someone you are working with is under 18 years old.

6. You have been asked to submit your work only by an agent or entertainment attorney.

7. You have or need an arrangement with a producer, co-producer, co-venturer or anyone who would like certain rights to produce and/or further develop your work.
