So to be clear, are you offering to hire a grant writer? Or are you asking for someone to do this on spec so that they are paid only of the government decides to give you a grant? You might consider posting in the "jobs" section.

Jennifer Cooley Let's be serious, that list of tasks can take weeks for someone who knows their stuff, if you want it done correctly. If you find it a fairly simple application, you should be able to do it. If the grant is guaranteed, then you could hire someone to do it and be paid when you get the money. If the grant is not guaranteed, then you are asking someone to do a lot of work on spec. That's not to bring you down, it's just a fact. So you might be better served to make that very clear because you will be more likely to find someone who is in the situation to do spec work. Most producers who have the requisite skills are not in that situation. So, you would be even better served to do it yourself and keep that money when you get it.

It's really very simple. After all it's a slam dunk simple application, it just needs a few numbers and legal details put into it, and then bam! a million dollars! And why pay anyone else to get it done right? After all, who wouldn't just at the chance to make sure you get a million dollars... for free!

WHAT? I just WROTE OUT MY WHOLE STORY FOR YOU? YOU MISSED IT? I CAN'T FILL IT OUT! I'm NOT LEGALLY ABLE TO BE THE ONE TO DO IT! THEY REQUIRE someone whose made movies be the one to do it. AND THIS is my way of giving others an opportunity to grow and learn, and prove they can do things they advertise their skilled to do! I'm not obligated to HIRE SOMEONE WITHOUT THEM FIRST PASSING MY EMPLOYMENT and INTERVIEW TEST'S and Processes! I put the last 2 girls I interviewed for Intern/Assistant through the very same standard! And neither one of them GOT HIRED, THEY FAILED, why would I PAY SOMEONE TO COME FOR A JOB INTERVIEW? Either you want to work or you don't, either you ARE SKILLED and ABLE TO DO THE WORK I'm ADVERTISING I'm looking for you or you can't! I ALREADY WROTE IT CLEAR AS DAY that a person who HAS NEVER MADE A MOVIE CAN'T APPLY FOR THE FUNDING, THEY CAN'T FILL OUT THE FORM and GET THE MONEY! IT IS A PREREQUISITE that the writer needs a CO-Producer! And so that's what I'm advertising for, it has nothing to do with whether I can do it myself or not! I HAVE ALREADY DONE THE SYNOPSIS and YES I HAVE A DECADE OF YOUTUBE VIDEOS and other promotional things I CAN USE as PART OF THE APPLICATION but THAT ALONE WOULD NEVER GET ME APPROVED because I HAVEN'T MADE ANY MOVIE YET! And that has nothing to do with paying someone for something I don't need to pay for! It's an EMPLOYMENT OFFER... and I will only pay the person after they've achieved the goal of showing they have what it takes to BE THE ASSISTANT AND NOT THE INTERN! Interns DON'T GET PAID regular wages, they EARN COMMISSIONS and have to BE PROMOTED to the ASSISTANT to GET REGULAR WAGES. The interns' job is to make their BOSS MONEY so THEY CAN GET PAID, Not my job to Pay the Intern to make THEMSELVES MONEY without MAKING ME MONEY FIRST reaching that payment! That's the same as throwing money in the garbage can and watching the garbage truck men dump the plastic container into the compactor and eating up the paper bills that were put in it. It's money gone on absolutely NOTHING! Nobody is allowed to earn money for NOTHING! Being an Intern & Assistant for a busy and large Production Company is NOT AN EASY JOB, IT ISN'T A PAID POSITION UNTIL THEY'VE EARNED IT, they HAVE TO SHOW THEIR WORTH, PROVE THEY CAN EARN the company money and earn their $50 an hour Assitance wage! I would never hire someone at the ground level with little to no experience to be an assistant at $50 an hour just because they walk into my office for an interview demanding it! :/ I'm the boss it's my company, I make the rules, I decide what I need and how to decide who I need, based on their POSITIVE ATTITUDE and HARDWORKING EFFORTS! Working for me IS A LOT OF READING and RESEARCH and EDITING, and licking and stamping envelopes and filling out applications for money or for contests my writing can WIN and earn me money. Then the Intern because a paid salary employee! I'm looking for Producers who have MONEY ALREADY, ones with MORE EXPERIENCE THEN ME, whose job it is to help me climb up to standing next to them and reach their same playing field and STAGE! Someone who's not worried about the 2 or 3 days of their time at home during COVID filling out the little bit of instructions for the Top Sheet for the National Film Board of Canada! Someone who is NOT WORRIED about being PAID money from the $1 million dollars UNTIL THEY THEMSELVES have WITNESSED AND SEEN that THEY CAN fill it outright and GET ME APPROVED for the funding! So they know they've earned their part in the making of the documentary and the CREDITS should they stick it out to the end! Of course, if this Co-producer says I'm too busy, I would gladly thank them with some money once I got it for helping me get it! But my struggles would still not be over, I'd still need a Co-Producer to look over my work as it is my FIRST DOCUMENTARY and 2- 1 film project, so I'd still have to find one and PAY THEM TOO! How does a person prove to me they can do the job and get the funding approved BEFORE IT IS ACTUALLY APPROVED? How could I ever test the people I'm interviewing to know whether I can work with them and they are worth hiring and giving a chance to? Once I've paid it doesn't matter it gets approved they leave with the money and move on with their life and I am stuck at square one still starting all over. And I have too much wisdom and experience to ever put myself in the position of being the intern/assistant when that isn't my position at all! There is nothing wrong with the way I am choosing to find my new friends in this industry and get the $1 million dollars! There is nothing wrong with advertising that I will pay people to START WORKING ON THE MOVIES when I've received the money! That is MY RIGHT and my freedom and it isn't wrong of me to choose to do save myself money, rather than paying multiple people the opportunity to fail. When I am just wanting and looking for 1 PERSON that JUST WON'T, that's much more worthy of my attention, time and thoughts! And I am now also done discussing this. You clearly misunderstood the story above I took the painstaking time to write out for you, so you can know me better from the right side of things! But it is clear you are only interested in trying to find something WRONG or NEGATIVE with me and what I'm saying, and arguing that. But I am actually a very NICE PERSON, kind and generous, and don't like to argue, so I am not going reply to you again about how I choose to FIND AND HIRE PEOPLE to work as employees for me anymore! It's a method that's ALWAYS WORKED with this industry and it will be a method that continues to be used long after I've died and left the world. Interns WILL ALWAYS EXIST, THE NEED FOR THEM WILL ALWAYS EXIST, Beginners HAVE TO BEGIN SOMEWHERE! Then you become paid and life and career move forward and great things, great success comes from there and that time and hard work from where it started from, was PART OF THE PROCESS AND EXPERIENCE that MOVED THE UP the ladder to a place in which they can enjoy their career from and remember what, when, where, who and how it all started from to get them there! And that's a pretty good hard-working kind of great love story for people who LOVE this industry and thrive on dreams to succeed if you ask me! Goodnight!

Jennifer Cooley Exactly. And why do you think that is? Because if you can't get that together, you certainly can't handle a film and they are not in the business of handing money out to projects that can't succeed. It seems from your comments that you don't realize it takes years of skill and experience to do, and if you do, you don't value it. And you don't seem to believe in your own project to put up your own cash into the necessary development (which is the FIRST test of commitment, in my book). It's not a form, it's an entire process and it involves legal liability and if you cannot do it yourself you need to pay someone or offer them some ownership or something. Asking someone to give you everything for free isn't appropriate.

Can we just agree that we are DEFINITELY ON DIFFERENT PAGES! I don't see things has HARD UP AND STRUNG OUT and DRAWN OUT AND AS DIFFICULT AS YOU! I'm a VERY INTELLIGENT, EXPERIENCED and QUICK THINKING WOMAN! You are right about the standards and processes you just mentioned when starting out as a young person completely alone against the world at 18 yrs of age with just a dream of what they want to be, and they have to learn the information they need to know to become that adult. And unfortunately for some people that means they have LONGER, HARDER, MORE DIFFICULT working paths than others! And that starts with tons of schooling, and practice and all sorts of other complicated things I DIDN'T NEED TO DO, nor will I ever have to! I am way PAST the points you are discussing and things you are talking about and bringing up! And that's probably why you're frustrated and come across angry, because you don't know me or how hard I've already worked learning the industry as well as I DO, and the process and time of my life it took me to get to where I am as the expert I now am at 46 yrs of age! I wrote my FIRST NOVEL when I WAS 13 yrs old. I'm one of the most naturally gifted women & writers on the earth today. I see the world and understand things differently, like a Progeny, a prodigy, a genius, not someone who needs to get 5 yrs of HARD C's in University to learn enough to get their first job in the industry and become good enough to FINALLY WRITE SOMETHING! I've been writing since I could hold a crayon, my first story was when I was only 5 yrs old in kindergarten, I can remember the location, and experience and event like yesterday, God told me to hold onto that memory and experience and feeling it was that important, so I DID! I've watched SO MANY MOVIES, and READ SO MANY BOOKS, and watched SO MUCH TV and LISTENED to ALL THE RIGHT MUSIC, that I HAVE BY PASSED AN ENTIRE GENERATION OR 2 of people who went to school, who studied and had to learn LITTLE AMOUNTS of things sacrificing all the freedom and time I HAD to learn the way I did, and all of that time and education they put in not getting to read and watch and see and learn even 1 quarter of what I know which only makes them only good enough to Apply to work for my company, the size of my work and production company is the size of Warner Brothers or Universal Studios, not the size of the man who introduced me to Stage 32! (I have a lifetime of FINISHED work, I'm SWAMPED IN PAPER WORK I have so many books to finish publishing and movies to finish writing and find producers for, that I WILL NEVER GET ALL THE WORK I've ALREADY PENNED or TYPED in my lifetime, done never mind the stuff that is still to come. I have to leave instructions for the FUTURE and find those lucky Future People to pass the work down to through my company, that is WHY it's called Future Productions because there is probably about 100 yrs of Future Productions just from my life and times of work in my heart, mind, soul, and fingers alone never mind the people and projects my company will support the production and operations of! :-) And so I'm now going to return back to focusing on taking care of all of that, I am finished discussing this, I've already emailed another local woman who runs a casting company to see if she can help me find the person I'm looking for now, I have no doubt things will work out for me just fine!)
