Once before I gave up on a script because I saw a similar screenplay.
I obsess about not copying something else.
I had a sci-fi that I put on the shelf because I did not want it remotely similar to War of the Worlds – until I came up with a bad ass ending.
So this time, I was sure, damn sure that I had an original idea. Because I was on Mt Rainier when it came to me. Me alone on a mountain. I started punching out the pages four weeks ago.
This is the best writing that I have done. It stings like a fried jalapeños.Then! Boom.
I saw a logline and let loose a string of cusswords in two languages. Some cabron’s logline matches my story too closely.
But I am finishing this cuz it excites, this sumbitching plot dances in the morning dew.

There are no original ideas. The only thing you can hope for is the ability to tell a story people have seen a thousand times in a different way. It is the writer's voice readers latch on to, the director's technique we come back to, and the actor's interpretation we celebrate. Good luck.

Yes Barry. That is hard to take. But I am not abandoning this script. I just have to put out a superior product.

Keep writing. I remember back when there were three volcano stories all being scripted at the same time. No matter. This is YOUR story, not someone else's.
Wally: that is the dream pl;ace for a mountain cabin. Get a satellite dish and venture out once every two months for supplies.
