Hello everyone. I am 49 years old and have spent most of my life working as a maintenance technician. A few years ago I decided to try working as an actor and crew member of a pirate ship and it was a lot of fun, so from then on I've been pursuing new and unusual things. Here recently I have been learning to use Garage Band and iMOVIE to make short video clips. I have discovered the magic of a green screen too, lol. Just last week I worked, for the first time, as an extra and in a couple weeks I will be taking acting classes. I read quite a bit and have several writing projects on back burner. I'm hoping to pull off a sort of stand up show some day. Like a monologuist maybe? And star as Dave The Bondslave of Love or The Devil's Worst Nightmare. Anyways, thanks for letting me join, I plan to poke around and see what I can learn here. ✌

Hey, David Lee Williams! Welcome to the community! I love this exploration into filmmaking - how fun! How have you enjoyed iMOVIE? I have old-school broadcast producers that swear by it because it's user-friendly and is super-fast for churning out base-level content. Actually, I'd love for you to post in the Post-Production Lounge - maybe you can offer a glimpse into what you've learned and ask for advice from our community? https://www.stage32.com/lounge/post_production
I was looking over your profile, but you don't have much there. Maybe you could use some of this post to help build up your bio! Oh, hey! It's funny you mention a stand-up show! There is an upcoming lab for punching-up jokes coming up in a couple of days. You should check it out! https://www.stage32.com/happy-writers/labs/Stage-32-Television-Workshop-...
Oh, hey - just a heads up, "crafty" refers to "Craft Services", which are the snacks made available for grab-and-go energy on set. Based on what you've discussed, I don't think you're offering that as a service, are you? A good way to think of the "Occupation" option on your Stage 32 profile is as the roles you are willing to take on right now. If it's something from your past that contributes to your knowledge base, but you don't currently take gigs/clients in that role, then best to include that in your bio or credits. For example, I have experience as a production coordinator, which can be verified through my credits, but there's no need to put it as my occupation because I am not seeking work as a PC.
Enjoy exploring the lounges, and don't forget to comment and respond to others’ posts, too! It's the best way to really connect!

Thank you Karen for your comments. I just came across this site today and have not really had time to explore it yet. I did not know "Crafty" was an actual occupation. Here I was trying not to be misleading and was misleading, lol. Jeeze. Hopefully I'll get my profile fixed up and share some of my own stuff soon. I've only been using iMOVIE a few weeks now and I have not used any other. I'd say it's a great tool because if I can just sit down and start making videos right away, most anyone can. The only thing I've noticed is that the number of tracks you use to create a piece is very limited. Again, thank you for your comments.
LOL, no worries. Yep, although I would consider it a skillset, but on some sets, yeah, it may be all you do. If you feel like you aren't in a position to offer any services professionally yet, you can list your occupation as "student" for now, until you figure out what you'd like to contribute to projects. Not a sermon, just a thought ;-)
