Hello, my name is Benny Joo. I am 21 years old, located in Des Moines, Iowa. I am going to hit the ground running into this business. I am going to make it my only goal to become a full time writer and director. I have time and drive. If anyone has any tips or any words of advise or wisdom, do not be shy
Good to meet you, Benny Joo, and welcome to the community! Love the energy, and definitely hit the ground running - just be sure to check in with yourself and allow for rest, too. Burnout is all too frequent in this business.
Awesome, I dig your Writing/Directing goal! What genres do you like? Do you feel like you can direct someone else's script, or are you only looking to direct your own writing? Definitely check out the Screenwriting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting), the Acting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/acting), and the Filmmaking Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/directing) to meet more like-minded creatives.
LOTS of advice for someone like you, just starting out, but specifically if you're trying to get on set as a PA - be responsive and respectful. The reason I got my first few gigs wasn't because of my film school degree. It was because I was one of the first to respond to the job listing. Also, the best thing you can earn is someone testimonial, so even if free work is the only gig you can find, if there person you work with does good work and can speak to your work ethic, then do it (not often and not for too long, because you deserve to be paid for your time).
I was looking over your profile, but you don't have much there. Tell me about yourself! I would highly recommend adding your occupation (whatever services you offer now) and bio (where you can expand on what you've done in the past or what you'd like to do in the future) to your profile for other members to better know how to interact with you. Feel free to reference my blog post on "Polishing Your Profile" to help guide you: https://www.stage32.com/blog/Shape-Up-Your-Calling-Card-The-Importance-o...
Keep at it, Benny, and I look forward to hearing more about your journey!
Welcome Benny. Great to meet you. You are going to make
it cause you are driven.
