If you are currently in a writer's group (or have ever been), could you share some of your experiences? What did you like or dislike? What worked and didn't work in your opinion?

Have you checked out the Stage32 Writer's Room? It's pretty much the best as far as writer's groups go!
There is a great blog about being in a Writer's Room: https://www.stage32.com/blog/Inside-a-Prison-Cell-and-Party-Room-AKA-The...
I know people who have bee in one in my local area. It wasn’t very good. A lot of insults and criticism and big noting the people who ran it. Was eventually ended when they stole material claiming it as theirs
Been in a novel-writing critique groups for many years - great experience and very helpful in improving the work!
Been in a couple of screenwriting groups and found them to be less than helpful - not toxic like Matthew Wauchope's experience, just didn't really improve the work.
IMO
John Ellis it is a shame but true the one I mentioned was Toxic but luckily didn’t last longer than it did.
I should probably mention writerscafe.org. It’s a online writing community like a FB for writers. I accidentally broke a rule (contacted admin about a bug through their profile when I couldn’t find the “report a issue” button) and haven’t had access since but it was a great site and most people were very helpful. Obviously you have to be comfortable posting your work online though. I don’t think writerscafe itself is a problem but Obviously not everyone online can be trusted.
