Introduce Yourself : Black Filmmaker by Devone Jones

Black Filmmaker

Good Afternoon Filmmakers,

For years hollywood has said they cannot tell stories for black people. I can agree. I've been apart of Stage32 for a good while and is facing the same situation. I'm looking for black investors and filmmakers to make some movies that can best represent us. I won awards for my screenplay and have won awards for my short film. Representation matters.

Karen "Kay" Ross

Great to meet you, and I totally agree! We need more marginalized voices helping to finance these projects. I just hosted a panel for Hispanic Heritage Month (https://www.stage32.com/webinars/Stage-32-State-of-the-Industry-Special-...) and it was mentioned that there needs to be more LatinX managers and producers to ensure that the content is getting made and at a high quality. Actually, I'd love for you to open up this discussion about investors of color to the Financing Lounge for more members to participate in: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/fundraising

Have you checked out the Filmmaking Lounge yet? I think you'll enjoy meeting like-minded creatives there, too: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/directing

Devone Jones I agree with you and Kay has a great idea about opening up the discussion in the Financing Lounge.
