Considering Relocating to LA

Hello amazing creatives!!! I'm an actress and writer based in Tampa Florida. I've been able to build my resume in many capacities. But I'm ready for the next step in my career!!! What are your thoughts on relocating to LA? Is it necessary?

Rent can be costly, even for a small place. However, there are so many opportunities for acting jobs. For instance using LACasting and Actors Access websites you'll get notifications every day for roles you fit. Even if you have an agent, it's always wise to find any work you can on your own.

Hi Toneice Evans - I would recommend making a stop in Atlanta before you choose LA. Here's a great blog from Matthew Cornwell >> https://www.stage32.com/blog/everything-you-need-to-know-about-acting-in-atlanta-2981

ATL has an abundance of work right now!

Toneice Evans - hope you are safe with the hurricane right now. Congratulations on having a successful career in the Tampa market. I agree with Mikul that the cost of living in LA is very expensive, so I'd recommend taking a day and doing a targeted session of writing down casting directors and agencies in LA that you'd like to be considered at. Then, I'd do a query to each of the places explaining the success you've had in Tampa. You being out-of-market will actually set you apart in your query. Try and get meetings set up and then fly out for a week of meetings with the groups. If you feel like you make the connection, then take your leap and move. If you let them know that you're only going to be in town for 1 week to take meetings then that gives a sense of urgency vs. you living here and having it be open-ended. Keep us posted on how it goes!

Hi Toneice Evans , I just moved to LA from New York a year ago and all I can say is that it is VERY expensive (and I lived in Manhattan...), you need a car to get anywhere (even for a coffee), finding a parking space is a pain in the .... and if you ask anyone in the streets what they are or wanna be; 90% the answer is 'Actor'. I also figured that many projects are being filmed in Atlanta right now. But my personal answer is: it's not worth it.
