Film Freeway has hundreds of screenwriting contests and some don't feel legit. Is there an organization, a website, or peer group that can give advice on what contests to avoid? I'm gearing up for another festival run with a script and I don't want to waste money. What are your experiences?

Dean: When using Filmfreeway, scroll down to the left of the film festival page and click Transparency. Find out how long the festival has run and its location. FF is inundated with fake online India and eastern block festivals. I'd start by staying clear of those. Best to stick with festivals that put money into having a real venue that filmmakers attend. Also, look for the top 100 festivals logo.

I have previously spent money submitting my scripts via submission windows on FilmFreeway, but since all I've ever done at the time was turn in eventual drafts without the outcome that I would've expected, I decided to take the "Free" route until further notice. I find it useful and beneficial for me to save money that way...
