Introduce Yourself : Author, screenwriter and journalist by Mitchell Rossi

Mitchell Rossi

Author, screenwriter and journalist

Hi everyone.

I'm a San Franciso-based writer but grew up in Los Angeles, so worked a bit in the business before switching gears to do magazine work. Getting back into the screenwriting mode, so I am new to Stage 32 and still getting my feet wet with all that is happening here. Just submitted my TV Pilot to the Action/Thriller Screenwriting Contest (fingers crossed).

It's great to find a community of screenwriters again.

Cheers,

Mitch

Thrilled to have you here, Mitchell. Good on you for diving back into your screenwriting (no better time than right now, IMO) and pushing your work out there.

Out of curiosity, what magazine were you working for? I was the Founder and Publisher of RAZOR Magazine and have an affinity for those who work in that arena.

Mitchell Rossi

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the welcome. Razor is a great magazine. Kudos for getting something like that off the ground. For a few years, I worked at the LA Times Calendar section, then went into automobile journalism - European Car Magazine, Sport Compact Car, Excellence, etc...(most of which have died slow deaths because of the internet). Of late, I have written various topics for a local magazine - Marin Living Magazine. I was lucky to have a few traditionally published novels early in my career (My latest is being published in the fall). But I have always wanted to try screenplay. It is such a different and difficult type of writing, and success often requires a high degree of determination away from the keyboard. Again, thanks for the welcome.

Welcome to the community, Mitchell Rossi. San Franciso and Los Angeles. Are you a Warriors, Lakers, or Clippers fan?

nice to meet you

Appreciate the kind words regarding RAZOR, Mitchell Rossi. That mag was my baby and we had one hell of a 7 year run. We were actually outselling GQ and Esquire at the end, but, as you mentioned, the move of ad budgets to the web, even though we were the first mag with a web component, was a nightmare.

I came from a journalism background and eventually moved to screenwriting as well. It was an adjustment, as you are discovering, but quite honestly, once you learn structure and formatting, it all begins to come together.

Richard,

That is true, storytelling is storytelling, which even goes for good journalism.

Thanks for sharing! Here is an upcoming Stage 32 pitching course I highly recommend to help get your pitch in great shape before you take it out to producers and execs:

Thanks, Nick,

Pitching is definitely the type of fine-tuning I need to do.
