With Introduce Yourself Weekend...It's Like a New Town Here! And A NEW TOWN IS A BLUE TOWN.

Five points to whoever can figure out the theme in this post.

HEY THERE!

Because we only have a weekend to complete these posts, I feel like I'm RACING WITH THE CLOCK here. At least it's every month, not a ONCE-A-YEAR DAY. So, I'll dispense with the SMALL TALK and get right to it:

THERE ONCE WAS A MAN, Doug Kayne, who was a writer, comedian, and actor. In fact, I still am. I'm a founding member of the sketch comedy group, Those Four Misfits (www.ThoseFourMisfits.com). We're still performing unscripted sketch comedy (the most recent show being this past Friday in North Hollywood.

I was lucky enough to have my very first screenplay, Romantic Comedy 101, be produced and aired on E! Entertainment Television. Got paid for the script and rewrite, too. Even got residuals -- the last residual check being for SEVEN-AND-A-HALF CENTS. Better than nothing, right?

Last weekend, I had the read-thru for the eight-episode first season of the sci-fi comedy series "Going Commander" that I wrote with Jane Hopkins. It went very well, with lots of positive feedback and reception. I'M NOT AT ALL IN LOVE with the fact that there's a writers' strike, which means I can't pitch it until the strike is over. But, knowing that, THINK OF THE TIME I SAVE in not sending out queries right now. I'm using the time to polish it and work on the pitch itself.

I'm very much looking forward to working, connecting, and collaborating with really cool creatives.

Bonus link...I also had a web series called "Janey and Ira", where I was the puppeteer of Ira, a wise-cracking shark. They offered bad advice and heckled music videos. In one of the episodes they heckled the favorite song of my friend, HERNANDO'S: HIDEAWAY, by Kieza. Here it is if you want to check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpSWX9UDP1Q&list=PLlBAfDHczCFdP7llVmkzqa...

Hi Doug, I love this song

Maurice Vaughan

I know the theme, Doug Kayne! It's TIME! Janey and Ira are hilarious!

Doug Kayne

It is a fun one, Billy Kwack. We had fun heckling it, too!

Doug Kayne

Glad you enjoyed them, Maurice Vaughan. Although you're not exactly correct on the theme. This one's for my theater friends. 8-)

Ingrid Moss

Nice to meet you! Fellow actor/writer in LA.

Billy Kwack

Hi Doug, I seen some parodies

Doug Kayne

Nice to meet you, too, Ingrid Moss

Maurice Vaughan

Ok, theater friends. What's the theme? I gotta know.

Sam Sokolow

It’s great to meet you here in the community, Doug. Janey and Ira is really fun - you must have a blast making it. What are you writing these days?

Doug Kayne

Sam Sokolow "Janey and Ira" was definitely fun to make at the time. Unfortunately, before we could do more than 60 episodes, the partnership dissolved (for reasons I won't go into here). Ira will definitely resurface again sometime -- you can't keep a good, sarcastic, foul-mouthed shark puppet down. He may even pop up in a Those Four Misfits show at some point! Right now, I'm putting the finishing touches on the first season of my sci-fi comedy series, "Going Commander", as well as preparing the pitch deck for whenever the WGA and SAG/AFTRA strikes end (since I'm a member of both unions). I'm also formulating a couple of other pilot ideas, one of which would be completely improvised.

What are you working on these days?

Maurice Vaughan

Doug Kayne "Ira will definitely resurface again sometime." Yes!

David Horton

I had to Google it. All songs from THE PAJAMA GAME sung by DORIS DAY. Is that correct?

Doug Kayne

Very good, David Horton; all songs are from THE PAJAMA GAME...although Doris Day did not sing all of them. She was in the movie version, but not the original stage one.

Five points to David Horton!

I chose PAJAMA GAME to reference given it's plot centered around the seven-and-a-half cent raise the union was pursuing as a central part of the movie. A bit reminiscent of the WGA and SAG/AFTRA strike to me. Plus, it's on my bucket list of shows I'd like to be in.

Maurice Vaughan

Thanks, David Horton. Really clever, Doug Kayne.

John Mezes

Hi Doug, thanks for challenging our community and keeping our minds invigorated! These are lots of fun. Thanks for being a Stage 32 member as well. You're keeping great company!

Doug Kayne

Entirely my self-serving pleasure, John Mezes. Keeps my creative juices flowing.
