Animation : Screenplay for children's story by Connie Barretta

Screenplay for children's story

Hi all, I have converted one of my children's books to a screenplay and have some questions. I will say my knowledge of animation is limited to watching animated movies so here goes...

This story, I believe, would start out with real characters, would change to animation in a dream sequence, and then back to reality at the end. I'm not sure if that is the best idea. It could be entirely animated if that sounds more realistic. Your thoughts, please.

Richard "RB" Botto

My suggestion would be whatever serves the story best.

Maurice Vaughan

I agree with RB, @Connie Barretta. Whatever serves the story best. And if you decide to go with animation mixed with live-action, I suggest watching "Osmosis Jones." Here's the revised first draft script: https://archive.org/details/osmosis_jones1325/mode/1up

Sam Sokolow

I completely agree with RB. There have been amazing movies that blend live action and animation - from the blend of Who Framed Roger Rabbit to the live action openings/closings of some Winnie the Pooh films. If it serves the story then it's the right creative decision.

Elie de Rosen

An animated dream sequence sounds appropriate, since dreams are by definition surreal. But be mindful of the cost. Animation can easily make your costs balloon, and it would be a shame if your dream sequence came at the expense of other elements of the film.

Connie Barretta

You all are so appreciated. Thank you for your input. My gut says to blend the dream sequence with live action RB. Love the way it’s been done with Winnie The Pooh, Sam. Osmosis Jones made me want to write a screenplay about the vagus nerve, Maurice, since it appears to interact in some way with every organ of the body :) Good advice about the cost Elie. Again, thank you. I just need to find someone interested in the script.

Richard "RB" Botto

And that's the most important piece, Connie Barretta. Write the hell out of it and then position yourself to get it in front of the right people. Control what you can control and let the rest go.

Connie Barretta

Thanks, RB!

Richard "RB" Botto

Absolutely, Connie.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Connie Barretta. I second what Richard "RB" Botto said. Let us know how it goes!

Connie Barretta

Thanks, Maurice.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Connie Barretta.

Kevin Jackson

I like the idea and I loved watching animations like that where it starts in the real world and transitions to animation or vice versa. I have not seen one of those in a while. Go for it.

Connie Barretta

Thanks for the encouragement, Kevin. I need to research producers who are interested.
