Acting : The Intimidating Talent Agency by Matthew Gross

The Intimidating Talent Agency

I'm doing a lot of research into commercial talent agents. The next one on my list is Firestarter Entertainment. Folks, I took one look at the Woodland Hills tower where this agency is housed and immediately felt intimidated. I looked over the website, and my feelings of trepidation lessened. Then I searched for the agent, Nicole Pryor Dernersesian, on YouTube, and my insecurities melted away. Social media is the job seeking actor's very best friend. Nicole is the type of agent I'd be thrilled to associated with. What did we ever survive as artists before YouTube?

I'm creating an exhaustive report about each agency I'm considering. During this investigation, I'm doing my best to identify the agents' personalities in addition to your valid points. Here is more information about her talent agency. https://www.firestarterentertainment.com/

This is an important discussion. I've always believed that it's the agent and not the agency that counts. If you connect with an agent that you believe in and trust - and who believes in you and does the work required for your career - that's what really counts. Look forward to more of your findings.

I completely agree with Sam Sokolow! Agents tend to move around a bit over time, so it's most important to connect with the Agent, not the agency. If you can build a relationship with an agent that you trust and respect, then they can be a part of your life and career regardless of where they place their office over the years.

Matthew Gross it is so important to be tight with your representative/agent/manager so it is all based on mutual trust and working together. I've had agents since I was 5 years old and finding the right one requires investigation and validation these days. Great discussion here and happy new year from sunny Greece!

Sam Sokolow is so right that it's about the personal/professional relationship with the agent. Sure, getting an agent at a Big 3 will open a lot of doors, but if that agent doesn't have the hustle or doesn't care about your success, you might as well not have an agent. Better to find a rep who really goes to bat for you

I'm only looking at talent agencies that are: SAG-AFTRA Franchised, ATA or NATR. I've viewed hundreds of agencies and am currently compiling a list for submissions. Surprisingly, so far I only have 13 submit-to agencies, and of that 13 only four are on my priority list. Yes, I'm looking carefully at the individual agents and their teams. Their YouTube interviews are truly helping me prepare for in-person interviews. I can tell instantaneously which agents I can connect with on a professional level.
