The Impatience Era: Stress and Media Shifts

They say the way we consume content has changed. In part, I agree, but not entirely, because I believe this change happens more due to general work-related stress, not just in the audiovisual field. Often, jobs are underpaid, with extreme demands for specific qualifications (not that studying isn't important). You study, and salaries keep shrinking, personal life has its own issues, which leads to conditions like burnout, poor eating habits, and that all causes stress and a lack of patience. Adding these health issues to the influence of TikTok, impatience only increases. Before, series had 20 or more episodes in the first season; now they've been reduced to six. And with this TikTok trend, series will end up with just one episode for the first season, split into four 15-minute videos, and that's it.

Hi, Adelmo Carneiro Lessa. Overall, I have no problem watching movies and hour-long TV shows (with long seasons), but sometimes at the end of a long day, I just want to watch something short, like a sitcom episode. I hope seasons don't get that short. I'm not a fan of short seasons. I want to get invested in the characters and stories, and it's harder to do that with short seasons.

Its interesting watching longer season shows now on streaming, rather than one episode a week when they were originally broadcast. When watching week-by-week the audience had down-time between each episode and would appreciate reminders of what happened the week before, but binge watching them on a streamer makes some of this repetitive, the "holding pattern" episodes where not much happens stand out more and minor annoyances become relentless. Shorter seasons where there is less padding in the storytelling may be a natural solution to this - but having said this there are short seasons of shows where you still end up thinking "that was two episodes too long". I also agree with you that there are many other factors in our current lives and the way we consume information that contribute to this.
