Greetings from a Remote Screenwriter/Script Consultant

Hello, I'm Mark and this is a reintroduction. I haven't been on this site for a long time I am a professional method screenwriter with over a decade of experience writing film/TV screenplays. During the past decade I have worked with clients to help boost their screenplays, also taught seminars and even did writer-for-hire assignments. I'm currently working with French and Canadian actors on monologs and other writing projects. As a Script Consultant I tend to go deep with characterization and story-development so if you need assistance in that area, feel free to send me a message. I'm looking forward to reacquainting myself with the site and members.

Maurice Vaughan

Great to meet you, Mark Fyers. Congratulations on all the success! What's a method screenwriter?

Mark Fyers

Method writing is the same as method acting, we become our characters and so it's a much more connected process as we bring the words off the page and you are brought into the story more visually.

Maurice Vaughan

Thanks for explaining, Mark Fyers. That's interesting! I don't think I've tried method writing before. Thanks for the idea.

Mark Fyers

Thank you Banafsheh!

Mark Fyers

How is everyone's writing going? Are you winning the good fight?

Jon Shallit

Sent you an add request. What movies have you written for that were produced?

Maurice Vaughan

Hey, Mark Fyers. Hope you've been great! I'm rewriting two feature scripts and outlining another one. What are you working on?

Mark Fyers

Great Maurice, I am working on a short and a feature with a couple of clients. How's the features coming along?

Maurice Vaughan

Congratulations on the jobs, Mark Fyers! The rewrites and outlining are coming along well. What genre(s) is your short?

Mark Fyers

That's good to hear Maurice! I am working on a project in the musical/drama genre. It's a gritty piece about making your dreams come true when everything is against you. The actor I am working with is really ambitious so it's good to be feeding off that. What's your process for outlining? Do you have a specific structure?

Maurice Vaughan

A gritty Musical Drama about making your dreams come true when everything is against you sounds interesting, Mark Fyers! I think a lot of creatives and people can relate to that.

I figure out the genre(s), sub-genre(s), logline, theme, the "Why This Movie/Why Make it Now?," budget range, characters, world, story beats, etc. I make really detailed outlines for feature scripts. What's your outline process?

Mark Fyers

Yes it's a really interesting process and more so because the client is splicing parts of his own life experience so he can add depth to it. This is crucial as an actor/writer.

Interesting process Maurice, do you do all this before you write your script? With my process, I develop a theme and then from there I start to apply a method format: The big one is asking questions because the more you ask, the more you learn about your character and their world plus you are able to explore through their eyes. Curiosity is key!

Maurice Vaughan

Yeah, I do all this before writing a script, Mark Fyers. Knowing all these things makes it easier to write the script. You're right. The more you ask, the more you learn about your character and their world plus you're able to explore through their eyes.

Mark Fyers

Absolutely 100%!
