HI! I'm Kat.
I moved to Los Angeles almost a year ago from Australia (Not Aussie, just lived there for 8 years) to work as a Writers Assistant on a broadcast show. I was a Disney Fellowship finalist for this year's cohort, have had meetings with WME, and one of my pilots is with two management companies and a Sony development exec - though I don't hold my breath on anything. I'm also a single mom.
Moving from Australia, I'm looking to become part of a community here! Looking forward to connect with you all!

Hi, Kathryn Castaneda. Welcome to the community. Congratulations on being a Disney Fellowship finalist, having meetings with WME, and your pilot being with two management companies and a Sony development exec! I hope you sell it!

I suggest a detailed bio to your profile when you get a chance. It’ll help you build relationships/network on here. You could add things to your bio like why you became a screenwriter/actor/author/voice actor, your accomplishments, your goals, and what movies, shows, and books you like.

Heya Kathryn Castaneda! Welcome to LA! I moved here almost 6 years ago, and it's been rough, but there are still opportunities here. Is there a genre you like to write in most? And you act, too, eh? Have you signed up for Central Casting to get on set as a background actor? I highly recommend it!

Great to have you here Kathryn Castaneda! You’re in the right place, you found your community :) I would highly recommend joining our writers room community, this is a private community that meets every week to work on improving our writing through pitch practice, breaking down scripts, meeting on Zoom with different managers, development, executives, agents each week, and this group has access to open writing assignments available around town. We just had the producers from the Oscar nominated film, a Complete Unknown on Zoom and answering questions in the private lounge. It’s a great way to build your network. Here’s a link for you to get a free month to join the group! https://www.stage32.com/writers-room/plans-vip

Kathryn Castaneda, you’ve already had such an exciting journey! From Australia to LA, landing a Writers Assistant role, being a Disney Fellowship finalist, and juggling it all as a single mom? That’s seriously inspiring. You’ve clearly been putting in the work, and your grounded outlook is so refreshing.
If you’re looking to grow your network and feel more connected to the community here, I’d recommend posting regularly in the Screenwriting Lounge. It’s a great space to share insights, ask questions, and support fellow writers. You might also consider reaching out to our Success Team at success@stage32.com. Tell them about your goals and current projects, and they can help connect you with resources or executives that align with your next steps.
Excited to follow your journey and can’t wait to see what’s ahead for you!
