Hi Stage 32 family! I'm a Moroccan screenwriter from North Africa with big dreams and bold stories. I believe in my talent, and I'm working every day to prove it to my country and to the world.
I know it's a long road, but I'm committed. What are the real chances for a writer like me, from Morocco or the MENA region, to break into platforms like Netflix MENA or even Hollywood?
Have any of you had similar journeys or know writers who've made it from outside the traditional markets? I'd love to hear your advice, insight, or encouragement.
Thanks for reading and keep creating.

There is always a chance if you have the money. Netflix buys many foreign films and TV series. Make a movie or TV series in your homeland and sell it cheap on Netflix.

Arthur Charpentier Hi , thank you for your comment. I just want to share that I’m originally from Morocco, but I’ve been living in the U.S. for the past five years. I have permanent residency and I’m currently studying Film at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to gain more knowledge and hands-on experience in the industry.
Back home in Morocco, it can be difficult for emerging talents to find support or opportunities, especially if you’re trying something new or different. That’s part of why I’m working hard here to learn and grow, and hopefully one day represent my country proudly as a screenwriter.
If I get the chance to work in the film or TV industry, it would be a true honor to share stories that reflect both my background and creative vision.
Thanks again for your insight and encouragement

I am definitely no expert. However, I do know that the digital world we live in makes it far easier to connect with people and with businesses. Think about the fact that you are in Morocco and I am an American living in Germany. And Arthur lives in Russia. We are all able to reach out around the world to make contacts. I am primarily a songwriter, though I started writing TV shows and films as well. I am able to contact music agencies anywhere. You, I believe, are able to do the same. I was in a Stage 32 webinar the other day. The speaker was in Monaco. The host was in the USA and I was listening in from a small farm in Germany. I am sure there were people of other nations also taking part. All I can say, keep pushing your dreams forward. Best of luck in everything.

Wyman Brent Thank you so much for the encouragement and perspective it really means a lot. You're absolutely right: the world has gotten smaller in a good way. It's amazing how we can all connect across borders and share our creative journeys, whether from Morocco, Germany, Russia, or the U.S.
I'm inspired by how you've expanded from songwriting into writing for TV and film. That kind of creative versatility reminds me that there's always room to grow and evolve. I’ll definitely keep pushing forward and staying connected to this global creative community.
Wishing you the best in your projects too and thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts. Let’s all keep going!

Hi, Mahmoud Boukhriss. Welcome to the community. There's a real chance for you to break into platforms like Netflix MENA, Hollywood, etc. My biggest tip is network/build relationships, especially in the Stage 32 Lounges. Stage 32 had a live Community Open House the other week. It'll help you connect with producers, directors, etc, and it'll help you navigate Stage 32. You can watch the recording here (www.stage32.com/education/products/stage-32-community-open-house-webcast-1).
Stage 32 also has a blog about navigating the platform and making connections: www.stage32.com/blog/how-to-successfully-navigate-the-stage-32-platform-...

You’re absolutely right, it’s a long road, but not an impossible one. We’ve seen more and more creatives from outside traditional hubs break through. The key is building a network, refining your craft, and getting your work in front of the right people.
I highly recommend joining the Screenwriting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting) to share your experiences, ask questions, and connect with others on similar paths.
