Hello, my fellow DREAMER. Here we are once again at another Introduce Yourself Weekend. And, once again, I pose a challenge: I JUST WANT YOU to figure out the theme of this post. If you can do it without using Google, you will earn...be PATIENT...NUMBER 9 points.
My name is Doug Kayne. I'm a writer, comedian, actor, and all-around HELLRAISER. I'm a core member of the improvised sketch comedy group, Those Four Misfits (www.ThoseFourMisfits.com). Our next live show will be on Friday, September 5 at 9:00 PM at the Whitmore-Lindley Theater in North Hollywood.
The horror short film I wrote, "Chips the Clown", is currently in the throes of pre-production. Set to be directed by my good friend, Kim Farris, we're searching for locations, cast, making CHANGES to the script, and working on the budget. Looking forward to this in a weird way, since horror is not my usual genre. That said, I'd love for you to be at the screening (whenever it happens) -- come on, LET ME HEAR YOU SCREAM.
I've written (with Jane Hopkins) the first season of a spec sci-fi comedy series, "Going Commander". It's irreverent and a lot of fun. Those assembled at the read-thru said they would definitely watch it if it was on a streaming service (which is the goal). The pitch deck and series bible are finished, and I definitely want this to see the light of day. I don't want it to go INTO THE VOID of unproduced projects.
I'm also collaborating on a spec script based on the 80s cartoon, "Thundarr the Barbarian". It's a slightly darker take on the cartoon, but with plenty of nostalgia for those of us who were fans (and, let's face it, Ookla had the best dialogue). I know some people say that writing a spec for a property you don't own the rights to is a ROAD TO NOWHERE, but it's shaping up into something really nice. And, you never know -- it might lead to something.
I'm also in the very early development stages on co-writing a hotel detective series. Still a bit too early to tell much about that, though. I mean, I DON'T KNOW even all of the story points yet.
This might all seem impressive to the uninitiated, but I assure you I'm still just an ORDINARY MAN who wants to work with all sorts of cool people, helping them realize their creative dreams and goals. So, feel free to hit me up! After all, we're all taking a SHOT IN THE DARK, right? I DON'T WANNA STOP in my pursuit, after all. Got to have something to show before I CLOSE MY EYES FOREVER, right?
Thanks for reading. SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE.

Hey, Maurice Vaughan. Sorry, but swing-and-a-miss on that one. Keep trying!

I got nothing else, Doug Kayne. I think it's fine to write a spec for a property you don't own the rights to if you're using it as a fan fiction writing sample, you're writing it for practice, or you're writing it for fun. That's what I've done.

On the plus side, for Jews today’s the Sabbath. Care to take an official stab at a guess, Carly Crickenberger? Or should I assume you’re only partially there? 8-)
