Introduce Yourself : One Year Later... by Dustin Richardson

One Year Later...

Hi everyone. Hope all are well, safe, and staying inspired!

My name's Dustin. I haven't been on here for over a year, I guess... Wow. Been busy keeping the dream alive and helping out where I can, whether it's film festivals or brainstorming with friends.

I'm an award-winning screenwriter with work that has placed in Coverfly's Top 1%, first place on the Red List, the Austin Film Festival, Launch Pad, PAGE, the Golden Script Competition, and Final Draft's Big Break, and more. Gosh, I miss Coverfly! Trying to adjust to navigating this online scene without it still.

I'm working on new, exciting projects. Finished a four-year run on the board of an LA-based fest and got the chance to work with Tim Burton, Paul Feig, Quentin Tarintno, and some other great people. I love getting the chance to chat with fellow artists, aspiring or already established.

What's new with folks and the platform? :)

Maurice Vaughan

Hey, Dustin Richardson. Hope you're well, safe, and staying inspired too! Congratulations on finishing the four-year run on the board of the fest and all your success!

I've been rewriting spec scripts and working on other projects here and there.

You worked with Tim Burton. That's cool! A feature script I'm outlining is like Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland meets John Wick.

Dustin Richardson

Thanks, Maurice! Still keeping busy in the lounges, I see, haha. That's an interesting comp you have there. Have you read any of the Wick screenplays? I really enjoyed reading the first one.

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Dustin Richardson. Yeah, the Lounges, the Blogs, etc. I read some of the first John Wick script a while back. I plan on reading the scripts as I outline my script. I've seen the movies. I haven't seen Ballerina yet though.

Amanda Guy

Welcome Dustin! I have missed Coverfly too, was shocked to see it go. I joined this platform a few months ago, and it seems like a great resource. Sounds like you've had some amazing opportunities so far! Hope this platform is the door to more for you!

Dustin Richardson

Thanks, Amanda Guy ! Yeah, Coverfly was amazing... RIP. I hope you're well! What genres do you write?

Amanda Guy

Mainly dramedy, but have been trying out other genres. What's your favorite genre to write?

Robert Russo

hitting my ten year mark of writing. Never got anything optioned or sold. Feeling I am not closer to getting something made today than I was 10 years ago. The logical part of my brain says I either suck, or I don't write anything that anyone cares to produce. In either case, I have stopped writing because I already have a number of scripts, so what add another to the pile. At some point you have to change strategies for putting ideas out into the world. Film probably won't be the way.

Mac Manik

Nice

Dustin Richardson

I love a good dramedy, Amanda Guy ! I recently wrote a 1-location, 2-person dramedy to try out a micro-budget idea for once. It was fun. My main genre is action/adventure with sci-fi elements.

Dustin Richardson

Yeah, things can be rough out there, Robert Russo . Especially when the rules of the game are dramatically changing media-wise.
