We find ourselves at another Introduce Yourself Weekend. No doubt this weekend, so we won't have to do it next week as we all take our PLANES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILES as we travel to see family. And, once again, I present a challenge to you: Figure out the theme to my post, and you get five shiny points! Collect enough points, and you can exchange them for a shiny penny (while supplies last...which isn't much longer...) Not sure why I'm doing these challenges...IT SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA AT THE TIME...
One thing's for sure, we're all trying to make a SPLASH in this crazy entertainment industry which we love so much. And, we're only going to be able to do that with connections and getting to know each other. Otherwise, we'd have NOTHING BUT TROUBLE. So, here we go:
My name is Doug Kayne. I'm a screenwriter, comedian, actor, and all around smart-ass hailing from Los Angeles. My mom, who was born around 1941, has always said that I need to remember to thank her in my Academy Awards acceptance speech. Not sure that's in my future, but it's not not possible. (Did I just use a DOUBLE NEGATIVE there?) If you're ever in Los Angeles, FIND THE LADY and say hello to her.
Comedy-wise, I'm a performer with the improvised sketch comedy group, Those Four Misfits. Our last show for this year is on Friday, November 21. Information is included, so if you can make it, it would be great to see you. Even if it's raining in THE GREAT OUTDOORS, we're still having the show.
I had early success with screenwriting, with my first screenplay becoming a made-for-TV movie. Writing-wise, I have the first season a sci-fi comedy series, Going Commander (written with Jane Hopkins) ready to be pitched. I also have a horror short, Chips the Clown, in pre-production, writing a grounded sci-fi movie (It Wasn't Me), and collaborating on a spec tropical detective series (Knee Deep In Paradise) and another collaboration on a spec feature based on the cartoon series, Thundarr the Barbarian. THE SILENT PARTNER is not intentional in the collaborations; I'll give their names when the scripts are completed.
I've also appeared in web series, plays, short films, and feature films. Any VOLUNTEERS to help me accrue more credits?
I'm always on the lookout for cool, creative people to collaborate with, work with, and talk shop with. I can also spend hours talking about comic books, Star Wars, and improvisation. Feel free to reach out! I bet we could share some REALLY WEIRD TALES.
Figured out the theme yet? Did you earn your STRIPES?

"Bow Wow Wow, Iggy Pop, and Christina Aguilera walk into a bar." That sounds like the beginning of an Action Crime Comedy, Doug Kayne.
"Figured out the theme yet?" Nope!

Looks like we need to write that script together, Maurice Vaughan! At least we know the soundtrack will be great.

You too, Maurice Vaughan!
Thanks, Doug Kayne. A tropical detective series sounds interesting. Catchy title! What's it about, or are you keeping the plot under wraps?

Maurice Vaughan It's still in the outlining, pre-writing stage (although I have written the first few scenes). Couple of resort detectives solving the murder of their partner.

This one seemed to be a bit challenging... The theme for this post: John Candy!
