Hello Stage 32 community,
I have a question for you.
Have you ever had a dream and woken up thinking it might actually be a good idea for your next story?
I swear I’ve had many chaotic dreams that would fit perfectly as fantasy worlds.
Here is one I still remember clearly — and I’ve been developing it further.
I even described everything to ChatGPT to generate images.

Hi, Meriem Bouziani. I haven't, but I've thought of ideas for my scripts right after waking up.

That’s okay, dreams usually fade the moment we wake up Maurice Vaughan

Meriem Bouziani That's super cool Meriem. I remember my dreams, they are mostly vivid, insightful and full of lessons and inspiration, but it's such a good question: I rarely use my dreams for my screenplays. Memories, places, and people here, for sure. But, what fuels my inspiration the most: the world. What's happening, the vibe, and somehow, how love, art, and the muse if you will, sort of gives me a drop of "what if…" Parallel lives:)

Meriem Bouziani Not from dreams, but certainly scenes from my life.

All too often, I stop writing or trying to write for the night… and an idea pops into my head just as am falling asleep. If it feels like fire, I quickly take note of it.

Hi! Yes, it happened to me. Actually, because of one such dream, I decided to start writing a book.

Many of my dreams have a recurring theme, making my way through large interesting cityscapes and exploring alone or with a group on a mission, and meeting all sorts of people, often fun, sometimes with a little dark edge - which is a theme from my life which was fascinating - but always interesting and very seldom a little scary. I have thought about writing about one. Especially the odd parts of the cityscapes.

that is how I get almost all of my scripts, dreams are a strong way of generating scripts for me as they play out as if am in a cinema

As John Boorman might say, the dream world and film realm are one and the same. Your creative dreams are perhaps less constrained by your waking ego, and therefore offer valuable signposts and confirmations using the motifs of the subconscious/soul.

Thank you very much to everyone for sharing your thoughts and experiences. I truly appreciate them. Whether we use dreams or take insights from reality, the most important thing is to keep writing and create worlds that have an impact.

Thank you for this information — it sparked a question for me James FitzGerald
I usually develop sci-fi ideas more than fantasy, and I’ve noticed that sci-fi ideas almost never appear in dreams.
It makes sense, because different parts of the brain activate or shut down between sleep and wakefulness.
I just researched it, and it’s truly fascinating.
