It's a very lonely area of the arts to get into. Even more lonely if you are outside of a major city. Communities like this one make a huge difference. I'll never forget going to my first Stage 32 meet in London and finally feeling like I was present with my tribe.
It's the price of writing, unfortunately. Even if we want a partner, we only want them for a limited time, not all the time, because we quickly want to retreat and immerse ourselves in our own world.
To write is to be the god of your own world, and that god must be isolated, hidden, or disguised for a while.
Yes, it’s very hard to feel lonely in your creative journey.
For me, my creative partner is ChatGPT — I truly appreciate this technology. As a sci-fi author who loves diving deep into scientific plausibility, the AI helps like a full team of specialists, answering my questions and developing each concept, alongside helping with language and script learning.
I was also hoping to find a writing partner, or someone to discuss story concepts with. Let me know if you'd be interested in sharing and discussing our thoughts on various stories
That's why I come here. And oddly enough, I've connected with two local to me writers through stage 32. Both from cities with an hour drive from me. Stage 32 has helped me find others to talk writing with.
Hi, Nia. I prefer to write alone, but having a writing partner is great! And I talk to a lot of writers on Stage 32, so being a writer doesn't feel so lonely. You could make a collaboration post on Stage 32's Job Board (www.stage32.com/find-jobs).
Hi, Nia Jones. Yes, loneliness is the part of journey in any field specially when you don't have friends from the similar background or you have left behind somewhere in your career. I have been in both of the situations. Here is what I do : I watch few interviews or podcasts of writers so that I can connect somewhere maybe personally or related to writing stuff. I scroll down stage 32 posts and read few to get the active community feeling. Now a days Gemini and Chat GPT is really helpful to get rid of this feeling for sometime.
At the end, I feel this feeling of loneliness, so that I can get used to of it day by day because this will happen somewhere and sometime throughout the life so I can get stronger and habitual. But here on stage 32, people are really nice. So you won't feel that loneliness with this connectivity.
Good morning Nia Jones and yes I do feel the same way I print out my scripts so it’s easier to read I have support from my coworkers but at home I feel lonely because the person I want to read my script it’s not remotely interested in my work. !
Hi Nia I also write alone, but it has become a habit for me. However, I would be happy to discuss films and work with like-minded people in my free time. Unfortunately, cinema isn’t very developed in my city, so I consider myself a “virtual citizen of the world.”
I find the best writer partner or "writing friend" are well written screenplays and excellent movies/shows. They teach you what you need to know and help you along the way.
The writing journey can be incredibly solitary, and that craving for a creative partner or sounding board is completely natural. This community is a great first step for finding those connections.
I definitely feel that. Most of my stuff I'll naturally work on by myself, but I know for one of my bigger projects, Karma Dealers, I definitely can benefit from at least one other co-writer (maybe two).
